The foxtails are out in abundance in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain right now. When they are soft and green they do not pose a threat, but when they are dry and brown like they are now, they can cause some serious, and very expensive, problems. The seed pods come off extremely easily when they are dried, and they are known to get stuck in dog throats, noses, ears, groin areas, and in between paw pads. If they get embedded in the skin and are not pulled out, they can migrate to other parts of the body. Try to keep your dogs away from the foxtails at all costs, and it is always a good idea to give them a quick check over once home from a walk!
