Know what these are? Dr Brian Laing will be on Whistle radio tomorrow at 7:30a.m. Discussing them.
Deer Tick removed this morning
Tick Season NOW - Check out what we removed today
Dr Brian Laing removed this Deer Tick this morning from Spike, a Cairn Terrier. It had been on Spike for 9 days and had not yet fully engorged.
What is worrisome is that the owner only walks Spike around the block and in a groomed park where the only long grass is at the fence of the baseball diamond; not where we would expect to find ticks. Needless to say, Spike left with a topical tick preventative that will also prevent any as yet unattached ticks from being carried into the house by Spike.
The photo is before removing the tick, the video shows the tick after removal and the tool we removed it with. Next time I will video its removal so you can see how it is done. Note that the tick has its mouth parts which means that the entire tick was removed which is so important.

Sadly we had to say goodbye to Smokey late Tuesday night at the age of 17. He greeted our patients for 7 years. Many may remember him sleeping in the basket of dog chews at the reception desk. He will be missed by all, especially his companion and best bud Harry.
