Important Information regarding travelling to the USA with your dog effective August 1, 2024
It’s quite simple, logical and straightforward now:
The dog owner (or whoever is accompanying the dog) must complete the new online CDC Dog Import Form for each dog. The form no longer requires a photo for such a dog, and is valid for up to 6 months, as long as the dog does not visit any high-risk countries. There is no fee or waiting period associated with completing this form (free). A separate form must be completed for each dog.
The dog must appear healthy upon arrival (this is not new).
The dog must be at least 6 months old at time of entry to the US.
The dog must have a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner to identify them.
This is really good news - albeit a bit frustrating that we spent so much time working on the issue over the last couple of months, only to have the US

With the multiple heatwaves this summer, Zumma would like to remind everyone of the signs of heat stroke in your pets and the ways to avoid this dangerous situation! ☀️
Signs: Increased heart rate, glazed eyes, heavy panting, difficulty breathing, profuse salivation, in coordination, vomiting, a purple tongue, lethargy, seizures.
Tips for Prevention:
- Keep an eye on the humidy levels: High humidity impairs a dog’s panting cooling process
- Restrict walks to early morning and late evening when the sun is not as strong and the temperatures are lower
- Stick to trails or fields where paw pads don’t come in contact with hot asphalt
- NEVER leave your pet alone in a parked car
- Provide a continuous supply of fresh water
- If your pet is outside, ensure there is shade available
- Be aware of dogs that are at a higher risk for heat stroke. This includes pets that are brachycephalic, elderly, obese, and pets who have heart and lung disease.

This is Elle, the beautiful bearded dragon! Elle had to have two toes amputated last week and is coming in for regular bandage changes now. ❤️🩹
Elle’s owner does phenomenal care and husbandry for her bearded dragons, but things can still go wrong. This is why it’s so important to bring your pets in for routine check ups and keep an eye out for anything that seems off with their usual behaviour. 🦎🐇🐕🦜🐈⬛

As a Fear-Free clinic, we do some things a little differently. This patient used to be quite nervous of nail trims, but will now allow all nails to be done in one sitting! 🐶 This was achieved through positive reinforcement, with food, and through building a relationship of trust. Sometimes this takes several appointments to reach this point, but we find it easier on the pet and the client than having to result to sedation. Vaccinations don’t have to be a traumatic event. As a fear-free clinic, we employ many different methods to create a more positive experience for our patients, including doing some examinations and vaccinations outside. 🌲 Due to previous negative experience, Zumma used to panic and scream whenever she would get vaccinations or blood-draws. Nova is learning a chin rest during puppy class. Chin rests are used by dogs as clear position to indicate they are ready to cooperate in their care. Nova will learn, with time, that when she rests her chin, she says yes to Martine to proceed with her care, like a vaccine, a physical exam, treatment in her ears, etc...😊🐾🐕 Nova pratique à poser son menton sur la paume de la main durant son de maternelle de chiots.
