Why it is Important to Buy Canadian Products
History has proven that many people did their shopping without too much consideration for where their products came from or the impact long term that their shopping habits would have on their own community or country.
It has been common practice to prefer the mass produced items cheaply obtained regardless of where they come from, how they were produced or the fact that they were often poorer quality than “locally made” alternatives.
Thankfully that trend is changing but more work and clearer thoughts are needed. We as Canadians need to support our Canadian products over exported goods.
Did you know when you buy Canadian products, you are directly contributing to a stronger job market?
“Small businesses make significant contributions to the Canadian economy and play an important role in employing Canadians. In 2023 businesses with 1 to 19 employees comprised 86.7% of all employer businesses in Canada and employed 5.2 million individuals accounting for 29.8% of total employed population. Additionally businesses with 20-99 employees comprised 11.2% of employer businesses and employed 5.7 million individuals, accounting for 32.5% of total employed population in Canada. Meanwhile, businesses with 100 or more employees employed 6.6 million individuals—37.7% of total employed population.”

When you are spending your hard earned bucks, you know that people involved in the production chain are fairly compensated because Canada is committed to paying minimum wage. Some Canadians are doing better and are committing to paying people a living wage which is more than the usual minimum wage. We all know that Canada has rules that are in place to ensure a place of employment of fair treatment with sanitary and safe conditions. Thankfully Canada does not use or permit Child Labor.
When buying from large global companies, there isn’t a connection to the people creating the product. But when you purchase local products, you often purchase directly from the producer or someone who deals DIRECTLY with the Manufacturer.
When shopping locally made Candian products, you are directly touching the lives of fellow Canadians. It is an investment in the local community and country. Each sale goes a long way to helping the Canadian economy to grow.
Next time you are faced with choosing a Canadian or an imported product, think about the difference choosing Canadian will make to OUR Community and Country as a whole. There are so many reasons to consider buying Canadian
