In January, Tikka was rescued from a house fire and brought straight to our clinic in critical condition. She suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns covering over 50% of her body, requiring immediate oxygen therapy, IV fluids, and intensive wound care.

Thanks to quick intervention and her unstoppable spirit, Tikka made an incredible recovery! She spent several days in the hospital before being discharged to her loving family, returning regularly for bandage changes and continued care. Through it all, she never lost her love for treats, cuddles, and the amazing resilience that has inspired us all.

A huge THANK YOU to our community for your support in Tikka’s journey. Your kindness and encouragement mean the world. And most of all, thank you, Tikka, for letting us be a part of your story!

This boy was just dropped off at the clinic. He is an intact male border collie that was found on Glenmore Trail near RR 255. Unfortunately, he has no tattoo or microchip, he is wearing a collar. If anyone recognizes him or knows who might be his owner, please reach out!

The FDA is directing 𝐑𝐀𝐖 pet food manufacturers to address H5N1 avian flu contamination in raw diets after multiple cats died from infected poultry-based 𝐑𝐀𝐖 food. This virus can also pose risks to humans through handling contaminated 𝐑𝐀𝐖 food or contact with sick pets.

Pet Owners, Take Precautions!
✔️ Avoid 𝐑𝐀𝐖 foods containing poultry
✔️ Choose brands using high-pressure pasteurization (HPP) to reduce contamination.
✔️ Ask 𝐑𝐀𝐖 pet food companies about their safety plans & pathogen testing.

Meet Lily & Lloyd!

Lily and Lloyd are owned by one of our amazing TA’s! Lily is a 9-year-old American Bulldog mix with a heart as big as her adventures! Rescued at just 8 weeks old, she was nearly euthanized due to a broken upper jaw—but now she’s living her best doggy life. She’s all about Blueberry Crunchie Os, camping trips, and exploring the great outdoors!

Her brother Lloyd, a 6-year-old American Bulldog, is all about food… and occasionally, things he shouldn’t eat. (Let’s just say he's VERY well-known at the clinic!) When he’s not sneaking snacks, you’ll find him patrolling the yard and keeping the skies clear of birds.

Together, they’re the ultimate dynamic duo!

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭: 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐞!
As calving season kicks into high gear, it’s crucial to understand how to recognize and address re**al, vaginal, and uterine prolapses in cattle. Early intervention can save both the cow and calf!

𝐑𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐞 – Can result from increased pressure while pregnant or with excessive straining during calving. Causes include genetics, diet, and dystocia (difficult birth).

𝐕𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐞 – Often occurs 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 calving, appearing as a swollen mass below the re**um. Keep an eye on late-term cows and consult your vet for corrective measures.

𝐔𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐩𝐬𝐞 – Happens 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 calving. This is an emergency! Immediate veterinary attention is needed, and the 𝐜𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝 𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐝 to prevent blood loss, shock and other major complications.

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬:
Maintain proper body condition in pregnant cows
Provide balanced nutrition to avoid excessive straining
Monitor cows closely before and after calving
Call your vet at the first sign of prolapse

February is National Cat Health Month. In honor of this, we would like to discuss feline dental health! Common dental issues in cats can cause pain and discomfort. Here are a few conditions to watch out for:

𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 (𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡): This dental disease causes the breakdown of the tooth structure. This condition often starts below the gumline and can be difficult to detect. Often, dental radiographs are essential to detect this disease and aid in the treatment of your cat’s oral health.

𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐬: Inflammation of the mouth, often caused by an immune response to tartar, leading to pain and difficulty eating. This condition often looks like significant redness along the gum line.

𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞: Plaque buildup can lead to gum infection, tooth decay, and even tooth loss if not managed properly.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐝𝐨 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐞𝐥𝐩:
Brush regularly to prevent tartar buildup.
Offer dental treats or toys that help clean teeth (especially if your cat won’t tolerate brushing).
Schedule professional cleanings with your vet.

Did you know that the position of a calf during birth can significantly impact the outcome? Understanding the most common calving positions can help you ensure a smoother delivery for your cow and calf!

Here are the key positions to watch for:
1. Normal Position: The calf comes out with its front feet first, followed by its head, in a diving position. This is the ideal scenario for a healthy birth.
2. Breech Presentation: The calf is facing backward, with its rear legs and buttocks coming out first. If this happens, prompt intervention may be needed. If the buttocks is coming first with the rear legs tucked up inside the cow contact your veterinarian promptly for advice on how to proceed safely.
3. Abnormal Positions: If the head or legs are bent in the wrong direction, or if the calf is turned sideways, these positions can often be corrected, although veterinary help may be required.

Introducing our patient of the month: Poptart

Poptart was seen at the clinic for having a distended abdomen. At that time she was eating well and had relatively good energy levels as well.

An abdominal ultrasound was performed and Poptart was diagnosed with a closed pyometra. This is a severe and life threatening infection of the uterus and can only be treated with emergency surgery to remove the infected tissue.

Poptart underwent surgery which was essential for her survival but she remained in critical condition. Her bloodwork revealed extremely elevated white blood cells and very low red blood cells (all a result of her pyometra infection).

Poptart remained in hospital for 3 days being treated with pain management, IV fluids and IV antibiotics.

Repeat bloodwork started to show improvement and Poptart was able to go back home with her family. Poptart continues to do well at home. She is a true fighter, and we're so proud of her recovery.

𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐞𝐭𝐬: 𝐀 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐆𝐮𝐢𝐝𝐞
Accidents happen, and knowing how to care for your pet’s wound can make all the difference! Here’s what to do:

𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐫𝐲:
- Minor wounds (small cuts or scrapes): Clean and monitor at home.
- Serious wounds (deep cuts, heavy bleeding, or punctures): Seek immediate veterinary care.
- Watch for signs of infection: redness, swelling, heat, discharge, or odor.

𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐥𝐞𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠:
- Minor bleeding: Apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth or gauze for 5-10 minutes.
- Severe bleeding: Apply firm pressure and elevate the limb. Head to the vet if it doesn’t stop.

𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐖𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝:
- Use a saline solution to gently clean the area. Avoid alcohol or hydrogen peroxide as they can delay healing.
- Remove any dirt or debris carefully.

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐋𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠:
- Pets licking or chewing their wounds can delay healing and cause infection. Use a cone or protective device.

𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐃𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲:
- Look for changes in the wound. Signs of infection or worsening? Visit your vet

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠:
- Ensure your pet is eating a balanced diet to support recovery.
- Limit activity to avoid reopening the wound.

𝐕𝐞𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞 = 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞! When in doubt, consult your veterinarian to keep your furry friend healthy and happy.

𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬: After surgery, it's crucial to prevent your pet from licking their incision to avoid infections or complications. Using a cone (E-collar) can help—but we know that keeping it on can be a challenge!

𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐊𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐎𝐧:
𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐢𝐭: Make sure the cone is snug but not too tight. You should be able to fit two fingers comfortably between the cone and your pet's neck.
𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Reward your pet with treats and praise to help them adjust to wearing the cone.
𝐀𝐥𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬: If your pet struggles with a hard cone, try a soft recovery collar or an inflatable option.
𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐈𝐭: Check the cone regularly to ensure its properly fastened and hasn’t loosened.
𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤𝐬: If safe, allow short, supervised breaks from the cone for eating or drinking.
𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: Provide plenty of toys, puzzles, or safe chews to keep your pet's mind off the cone.
