“Vidar” is 2024 Invitational bound next month. He sure has grown into a magnificent representative for the breed and encapsulates the true meaning of the versatile Vizsla.
We can’t wait to share the day with them in Iowa 😎
1️⃣1️⃣ the eldest of our Pannonia pack’s birthday on August 7th - how the years flew by and so much accomplished! Notably the first Versatile Champion for the breed and multiple European work titles including ResCACIT, yet the most cherished skill of this dog is his ability to be a grouse hunter extraordinaire.
He spent the day swimming and strolling our new 30 acre home complete with quail and Hungarian partridge- what bird dog could ask for more?!?
Love this boy to the moon and back! May we have many more hunts in the forest and fields together in the coming years, my Big Red, The King, our beardless wonder and Secretariat of the bird dog world. You hooked me in this bird dog world and the and I’m grateful each day I get to have you in my world!

One of our goals on our Hungarian trip was to hunt test the dogs in the Hungarian Field and Water spring test, the VMV.
This test combines many retrieving tasks in field and water, proofs gun sensitivity in the field and water, works on blind field and water retrieves as well as pointing and searching. Many objectives similar to the UPT test and some even more difficult tasks. Other tasks are only available in the German VHD testing system in North America.
We trained hard the week before, all aspects of the test every day for 4 days and our hard work paid off as both dogs received Prize 1’s for their work!
Pannonia Boróka missed a max score by just 4 points for a Prize 1 280/284
Firmstone’s Karak impressed as a young dog at just 17 months completing this rigorous test and also received a Prize 1 263/284! He got to meet the breeder of his mother (Eszter Hazi Drotos Kotta), it was wonderful to share thoughts and insight into the breed with Eszter and have her judge this dog with her lines behind him.
We couldn’t be happier with our results in show in Europe and now even more satisfaction to have this hunt test behind our dogs - Looking forward to the coming hunting season!

The 3rd pup from our C litter to complete the Natural Ability Test added another Prize 1 with max scores to the Pannonia House!
After testing Saturday and heading towards a Prize 1, Cedar decided it wasn’t the day to point birds but rather just retrieve them…..therefore he did not pass with a zero in pointing.
We did a quick training session that evening to remind him of the rules and today he pulled out all the stops and received his Prize One 🥇that we knew he was capable of.
Cedar lives with my family on Vancouver Island and was trained by them as newbies to NA testing - we’re very proud of them both. This is what we breed for!

Our final show in Hungary was a successful one:
Pannonia Boróka went ResCACIB AND CAC 2nd/5. The judge quite liked her and it was nice to have appreciation for our breeding at the end of our time in Hungary.
Firmstone’s Karak ‘Sajó’ received CAC for his class. He moved beautifully in the ring, the judge said he just needs some more filling in to do. Next year will be the Yankee boy’s year!

Our Sajó (Firmstone’s Karak) successfully ran his first Hungarian 🇭🇺hunt test - the Basic Exam AV (Alapvizsga) with MAX scores and Excellent rating!
This test is a similar to the NAVHDA NA test in that it has field search and pointing but the other parts are quite a bit more including many retrieve exams:
Land:
- marked retrieve of duck and rabbit
- Drag of one game (duck or rabbit)
Water:
- marked retrieve of duck
- marked retrieve of duck with gunfire
The judges were especially complimentary of his field search, sweeping the field with high nose, as a true Magyar Vizsla should. Nice moment for us having come so far to be here.

We are very pleased to report that our home bred Pannonia Boróka and Sajó (Firmstone’s Karak) had a wonderful showing in Pécs this past weekend.
Junior Sajó received Very Good 1 and Excellent 2 ratings - he is getting better in the ring, we are learning together and improving.
The star 🌟of the show was Boróka, receiving Best of Opposite each day, against a nice line up of Wirehair Vizslas. Hopped off the plane from Canada and into the ring in southern Hungary - now that’s some good nerves and a testament to the fine temperament that we strive for in our program.
A big thank you to for putting up with the Vizsla travel shenanigans 😅

We have more fantastic news from our B litter - Pannonia Béke (at Aldott) was PennHip tested with fantastic results! She is well below breed average at 0.16R/0.22L, excellent indeed. Béke joins her sisters Bodza and Boróka in the excellent category and brothers Bátor and Bitang in the good category.
I have to say that her father, Avas (Cápa von Haus Schladern), has sired 4 litters since I’ve had him and thrown puppies with exceptional health, temperament and abilty. He truly made his mark here in our kennel and North America!

The Pannonia Avar x Vizslavilla’s Sunny
pups are 4 weeks old, turning into little dogs now!
There is much to celebrate here at the Pannonia house (more on our 2023 recap later) but right now I’d like to send out much appreciation and congratulation to one of our B litter pup owners and my friend, and her most beautiful girl Pannonia Béke at Áldott.
As the picture describes, she recently went to the very big Royal Canin show in Orlando and showed her girl with the big guns for the first time ….. coming out with a bang 💥!
She is now a new show champion (pending AKC approval) having taken Best of Opposite in a beautiful line up of 18 HWV’s including winning over a number of special females. Quite the accomplishment and testament to her dedication and our breeding program for versatility, temperament and health.
Thank you for showcasing our girl, this is truly just the beginning of an exciting career for this young lady.

When you have a pack with males and females it can get challenging when a female goes in heat, let alone two at the same time!
It’s important to keep the boys sharp on listening even though their brains may be elsewhere and hormones raging. To listen, be obedient and get along with the other males, even in the environment where a female is in peak season, that’s work and we work it!
Here we worked on spatial tolerance, recall and down stays while the other recalled.

We are excited to finally introduce the newest member to the Pannonia Kennel:
“SAJÓ” Firmstone’s Karak NA Pz2
Named after a river in Hungary I have always loved, in the same BAZ region of Hungary where my dogs are named out of!
Sajó just successfully completed his Natural Ability Test in second prize 🏆 with a score of 107/112 at .rose.navhda.
He is only the second dog from his kennel to test NAVHDA.
Earlier this summer he was showcased at our national breed club, Vizsla Canada, specialty regional show winning Best Puppy in Specialty Show plus Best of Winners/Best of Opposite against 7 other HWVs, including specials! The judges had wonderful feedback on his structure and coat and I am continually impressed with his sound temperament, biddability and work attitude. He checks ✅ the boxes I look for in a HWV so far.
We are excited about his future and what he may bring in terms of genetic diversity to our breed. He’s impressed so far and this is just the beginning!

PANNONIA Bitang NAVHDA UT Pz 1
We’re very excited to announce the recent progeny from Pannonia Kennel 🇨🇦 proving the success of a breeding program focused on hunting ability, health and temperament.
Pannonia Bitang “Vidar” ran his Utility test at the chapter this weekend to an impressive Prize 1 🏆 196/204 points!
He is the progeny of our lovely Fecske and Avas, they did good!
It has taken a few days to process this as we’re on cloud 9 and still beaming from the news! As a judge it is always a pleasure to watch the strong bond and connection that comes with a prize 1 Utility handler/dog team - the cherry on top this weekend was that it was a pup from our kennel showcasing his ability and strong genes 🌟
It’s wonderful when owners test NA and even more rare and exciting to test them to such high levels of UT. There were moments it felt like I was running the dog, nerves were running high! Yet, it became apparent very early that these two hard worked hard to prepare and that was paying off.
We’re very blessed and grateful for such great homes for our pups and the owners who have become good friends along the way - a breeders dream really comes true!
Thank you to Alonzo and Bev for all they do to train and test Vidar and most importantly, to hunt him as he was bred to do - I couldn’t ask for more!
