Update: this is NOT Zorra from confirmed by TJ Wolfe.

Captured in Washington but may be from Southern BC. Has been out there for several months from her condition but is being nursed back to health. Do you know this girl?

Well, here's one way to help your lost pet get home.

08/03/2024

Last night I went to my van in the dark and a deaf 16 year old dog wandered by me lol. She was making good time and I was in slippers, so I ran in and check FB. She was posted lost 1 minute ago.

Owners found her 30 minutes later with a little searching in the right direction.

Dog was smart enough to walk by the Lost Animal Finder on her way out.

Travis is home safe. This young boy with Epilepsy survived a week on his own. Daisyโ€™s Pawprints and I guided them and I flew most of the night searching.

The family was out day and night searching and didn't give up. I loaned them 2 trailcams and they immediately ordered more. They were determined and we all watched them day and night. At 2 AM Travis showed up on one of their cams and they found him.

Travis is the Best Boy!

Travis was secured this am by his owner (day 7 up owlhead mountain)!

Just a reminder to never give up. Heโ€™s one lucky guy to have a family that trusted the processes and didnโ€™t give up on him! Happy tails Megan Patricia ๐Ÿพโ™ฅ๏ธ๐Ÿพ

I have SO many dog pals on my delivery route, some of them can let their owner/guardians know my van is 2 blocks away "she has a particular cadence just for you". Some are notified of my impending arrival by the canine telegraph.

I have no dogs that give me a problem.

Never punish a dog for growling, change the situation instead!

When we punish dogs for growling, even if they're growling at our child, we aren't helping them feel better about whatever it is that is threatening them. Instead, we are teaching to stop letting us know when they feel unsafe.

The result? A dog who stops giving us warning signs and "bites out of the blue."
And, that's how we create dangerous dogs. I'd much rather have a dog growl and tell me they're upset (so we have a chance to intervene and help them) than a dog who just bites without any warning signs.

Bites don't happen "out of nowhere".

I have always advised owner/guardians to never punish a growl or try to suppress it, but instead change the situation. A growl is often the last warning before a bite.

If your dog is growling, pay attention and adjust for a positive result.

Children represent a massive proportion of reported dog bite cases.

These pictures, selected from a massive library of similar stock photos of children with dogs, show some of the reasons for this.

Humans like physical contact. We're generally huggers, particularly with a gorgeous animal like a dog - that soft coat and gorgeous faces just look perfect for a hug, especially to a child.

Dogs are definitely not like us in this way. True, there are some dogs who may enjoy cuddling up with their people, and even like or don't mind hugs. One of my dogs is very much in favour of physical contact. Importantly, however, it is only with the people he chooses. The ones he knows and trusts.

Kids often cannot read canine body language. The signs are here in the photographs used of a tense and unhappy dog, but the children in these pictures can't see and interpret them.

It's up to us as adults, whether parents, dog caregivers, or both, to make sure that we are educated on canine body language and can see the signs of stress.

That we make sure to advocate for the dogs so that they are not put in this position.

To make sure that the children around us are educated and taught about the likes and dislikes of dogs.

To stop putting children and dogs into potentially dangerous situations for the cute photo or video (the videos of babies propped up against dogs make most behaviour professionals shudder because that is so not fair on either species!)

Let's be fair to both dogs and children and use education and understanding to keep children and dogs happy and safe together.

Sabrina and Merlin are our 2 wonderful foster kittens, now up for adoption via Okanagan Humane Society. They are so full of love and wonder and our youngest cat loves them. They are truly our pleasure to have around.

Litter trained, eating both hard and soft food, drinking water, vet checked with no known issues, spayed and neutered.

They are a bonded pair and ideally we would love them to go to their furever home together.

I will post their individual ads below.

We would definitely keep them both but 5 cats would be a lot when we travel by RV...

Put your number on your pets' collar for the fireworks!

Someone passed this onto us and we thought it was a great idea to share.
With the 4th of July right around the corner we tend to get several calls about dogs getting out, and owners frantically trying to find them. We ask that you make sure your dogs have their collars on, updated contact information on their licenses, or do something similar to the picture below !
We can not scan for microchips. We do not have a scanner, and if the vets offices are closed, we will have to transport any found dogs that are unclaimed to Lake County Dog Shelter.
We love our community fur babies and want to make sure they are safe! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’•

Lost Animal Finder
How can I help?

Finding lost animals is my priority. This website will grow as time allows. My vision is to provide a permanent source of tips for owner/guardians including:
- Advanced preparation
- Prevent losing your pet
- Keeping your cool and working towards finding your pet
- Seeking help
- Putting up Lost Pet signs that will get notice
- Securing your pet once it has been located
- After care for both you and your pet once it has been secured
- Planning for and dealing with the chance that your pet may not be found, or may be found deceased.

An amazing dog named Barley convinced me to launch Lost Animal Finder. Barley jumped a high fence in Tonasket Washington and was hit by a car before crossing the border into Canada. In 3 days he made it from Osoyoos to Penticton. There were hundreds of posts and dozens of sightings, with him ending up in Sage Mesa. Following Facebook tips and working with an incredible team of volunteers, a plan was formed to trap him safely.

A sighting was posted near where I was out searching with my little consumer drone, doing what I could. I went door to door and found him sharing a sandwich with a homeowner, bringing in the amazing Jacenda, Ava, and Petra from Petra's Pawdicures. After several hours and bringing in Animal Control officers, Barley was finally gently lead into a truck.

Barley is now back in his loving home with 2 other large working dogs on 5,000 acres with cattle and loves his family. I have been invited to visit next time I'm in Washington.

Using predictive mapping techniques and modern thermal imaging on an Enterprise class drone, it's possible to locate lost pets and livestock by looking for their infrared heat output, day or night, even in stormy or freezing weather.

About me:
- 15 years of animal rescue with Animal Lifeline Emergency Response Team (ALERT), CDART and animal rescues
- Positive Reinforcement (R+) animal trainer with training from Karen Pryor Academy
- 8 years of flying drones with hundreds of pilot hours
- Advanced Pilot certificate - Small Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS)
- Former Certified Spotter with Civil Air Search and Rescue Association (CASARA)
- Mortality and livestock hauling training
- Currently raising 3 abandoned kittens and fostering 2 others
- Have searched for everything from cats to humans to cattle

Call/text me at 250-490-6665 if you need my help or just need tips to get your search strategy going. Please don't wait, the best chance of me finding your pet is to be right behind them!

A first for me today. I'm soaking the collar and a lock of hair that I recovered from sweet Beach. They smelled like death and I want to hand them to her owner/guardian as a positive memory of her life.

All while 3 snoopervisors wondered what the heck I was doing out there in the dark at bedtime snack time.
