Did you know that it's the lowest adoption rates in over 40 years in North America? Rescues are full. Shelters are full. Waitlists grow longer every day and many good dogs end up euthanized for space in shelters who are left with no other choice but to make room for the incoming dogs. Here at Gibson's Legacy we have received zero applications for Daisy and Cowboy, who desperately want homes to call their own. HELP!
We have another new member of Gibson’s Legacy! Everyone meet Cowboy (formerly Coco). 🤠
Cowboy is an intact “Bernedoodle” who is approx 2years old. He came to us due to being a bit too rough with young children in the home and helping himself to one of his previous owners chickens 😬
Cowboy has very little foundation at this point and needs training in order to bring him up to speed. He counter surfs, he wants to chase small animals and wants to chew anything that isn’t a dog toy. He is however extremely friendly with people and wants affection all of the time. ❤️
He isn’t a huge fan of the other dogs in the house, getting fairly defensive of his kennel toward the other dogs while he is inside of it. 🐾
We are hoping that somebody with Doodle experience will see him and want to love him, as he may have some bad manners but is a puppy in a huge body (weighing over 70lbs with some filling out left to do). We are looking for a home where Cowboy will be the only pet and one without young children. Though we are making great first steps with his training, we are giving priority to candidates who are willing to hire a professional trainer as well. 🦮
He is healthy, doesn’t have any allergies and is a strong young dog who will flourish with somebody who is experienced with this goofy breed and understands him. 🐾

Miss Daisy is still waiting for her forever home!
She has been in rescue for over a year 🥺
This little lovebug is a ~3 year old Staffy Bull Terrier mix who is friendly with cats and gets along with other dogs after a few structured introductions (males or submissive females preferred). 🐾
Daisy came into our care after she was attacked very seriously by a large dog, leaving her with physical and emotional scarring. ❤️🩹
She is best suited to a home with experienced owners who don’t have young children and can keep up with her training, due to her being a resource guarder. 🐾
Daisy is trained to wear a muzzle for when she gets her nails clipped, but requires a slow and gentle approach with lots of treats in order to feel comfortable with her nail clipping. 🦴
This little spunky girl is extremely cuddly with her people and loves to receive belly rubs. She is also an all star at playing fetch and will proudly return the ball to you for another round. ⚾️
Crate and house trained, this girl loves to be pampered. She will make somebody a fantastic companion as she is as loyal as can be. Her people will need to advocate for her and keep strange dogs at bay until she has a few days to get to know them, as the attack left her very insecure with new dogs. 🐾

We want to send a huge shoutout and thank you to Blue Ribbon Pet Supply. They gave us an extremely generous donation of Orijen and Acana dog foods that amounted to 250lbs!!
We are so grateful to the wonderful staff and owner who are always so helpful when we are in their store.
We love Blue Ribbon for their products, some of which we can’t find anywhere else on PEI. One of our dogs is allergic to synthetics that are in 99% of dog food, but Blue Ribbon carries synthetic free options such as Carna4 and Hurraw!

This little cutie came into the rescue a couple of days ago! ❤️
Her name is Millie and she is a six year old Toy Miniature Schnauzer weighing in at 12lbs (but is a little overweight, she will be closer to 10lbs when in shape)! 🦮
She suffers from allergies that cause her to have skin issues, ear infections and a**l glad issues. She has been taking cytopoint injections every six weeks, but we hope she won’t need to continue them if her new hypoallergenic diet works for her! 🦴
We are going to hang onto her for a while and figure out what diet works best for her before making her available for adoption. 🏡

Roxie update!
Her surgery went smooth and she has healed up nicely!
The cancer didn’t seem to metastasize and her lymph nodes were clear!!
Hoping we have many more moons with miss Roxie girl and that this cancer stays away! We will need to check her mammary chain often and if any signs of trouble she will be back into the vet!

*Update*
Buster is doing fantastic with his adoption trial period. He has warmed up to his humans and is setteling in nicely with former Gibson’s Legacy rescue dog named Sadie. Sadie the English Bulldog also came to Gibson’s Legacy with aggression issues and her humans patience and dedication have helped her to thrive in the world. Buster is making a habit of sleeping on his humans lap and took no time to become his goofy self. His holidays are looking very merry indeed.
Daisy is still holding onto hope to find a home for Christmas but isn’t letting it get her down! She recently went on an off leash pack walk, made a new dog friend and has been showing off her skills socializing as a normal dog. She and two other dogs chased a wild rabbit that jumped out of the woods, however she was recalled without any trouble - truly this girl has come miles.
The rescue dogs would be overjoyed with any toy or treat donation for their Christmas stockings - most of the dogs in care have dietary issues so single ingredient chews and treats are preferred.

And about my own dogs, who are former rescues:
Roxie is going for a pre-surgery appointment to have a lump looked at. Hopeful it’s just a cyst but it’s growing quite fast. I suspect it will need to be removed and sent away for testing, but they may be able to biopsy it at the pre surgery appointment.
Bane just recently had surgery for an entropian revision and to remove a mass on his rear right leg. Entropian (to my understanding) is when the eyelids are somewhat inside-out, causing the eyelashes to scratch the eyeball which causes discomfort and can lead to other issues with the eyes. Bane had this surgery to correct his entropian when he was a young fellow but with age he needed a revision done to them. The surgeries went smoothly, the mass came back benign and Bane has noticeably become a happier boy.

Daisy gets along with other dogs when given time to take it slow. Daisy is also great with her foster dad’s cat! She loves nothing more than to chase her ball and has become reliable off leash when using her e-collar. 🐕

Blue has been on trial adoption and everything is going great! He is scheduled for his neuter and the adoption to be finalized.

Our adoption fee has been raised due to the increasing cost of living, vet care, feed etc.
Our standard adoption fee is now $1000, which includes spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchip and helps to balance the costs of their care stay which is usually between 6-12months.

Introducing Buster (aka. Bo)! 4yr old, neutered.
“Bo bo” came into rescue after struggling at a mainland shelter in NS. He is a gorgeous American Bully of the exotic style (heavy pit bull, English bull and French bull in these lines).

Buster does very well with other animals when introduced properly, but prefers to have a few days of slow introductions with humans. Buster did come into rescue with a bite history, however he has not bitten since coming to PEI. With proper introductions Buster is able to come out of his shell and with his trusted people he becomes the worlds funniest and sweetest dog.
Buster loves to be pampered and groomed. He has the Bulldog personality that so many of us enjoy. He is a joy to walk on leash and has started
Ecollar training to be able to go off leash.
Requirements are no kids in the home. You must be ready to do daily care for Busters skin care. With his English Bull style body, he cannot reach to clean himself; this requires his human to wipe down his body with a wet wipe daily. His facial folds also require daily cleaning and his nose requires daily lubrication. Previous Bulldog experience would be great!

Introducing Hazel!! 😍
Hazel is a three year old Great Dane who is looking for her forever home. Kid and Cat friendly, only dog home required. Her spay surgery is sponsored by Gibsons Legacy!! 🙏
Hazel came into rescue with her friend Blue after their owner back home in Ontario passed away. 💔
She is one of the most affectionate and low energy dogs we’ve had here at Gibsons Legacy.
Hazel is an incredibly cuddly dog, but has amazing manners and doesn’t jump or bark 👌
She knows how to Sit, lay down, shake and speak (however her speak is quiet, almost a whisper!!). Hazel is great to walk and also learning off-leash walking skills extremely well! 💡
Hazel has funny looking ears due to an unnecessary ear cropping surgery that wasn’t properly cared for. Hazel also has suffered from a bad case of “Happy Tail” and ended up losing 1/3 of her tail. Her tail is still healing and her new home will need to continue with her aftercare.

Blue is looking for a home to call his own!
Blue is a 3yr old purebred Great Dane weighing aprox 150lbs.
Blue came into rescue last October with his friend Hazel, after their human had passed away from cancer back in Ontario 😔
I had been very hopeful that I would eventually find these two a home together, but now with them being here nearly a year iv decided it's time to make the decision to separate the two in order for them to find their forever homes 🥺
Blue loves people of all ages and sizes, he is extremely lovable and would likely bond with another dog if properly structured introductions take place.
Stunning doesn't even start to describe this boys looks and his personality matches!! 😍
He is incredible on leash, walking very calm and always heeling to his human. Off leash is coming along great, with his recall becoming concrete. This giant will run for 10minutes and then sleep the rest of the afternoon! 😴
Blue is eating Performatrin ULTRA Ocea formula, and he has been steadily gaining weight (he was quite thin on arrival) and his coat has become gorgeous and velvet soft.

Okay Gibsons legacy, everybody say hello to Hunter!!
Hunter is an 8-year old Shepherd x American Bulldog mix who due to no fault of his own is looking for a retirement home.
Hunter is up to date on his vaccines, microchipped and neutered. He is fantastic with people, great with kids and with proper introductions he makes great friends with dogs too!
Hunter doesn't like cats.
Hunters dad was recently accepted into medical school and will soon be doing up to 16hr days away from home. Hunter is extremely proud of his dad and knows this is the best thing for him, however Hunter doesn't like being left alone for too terribly long and would like to find a retirement home and new friends to spend the rest of his days.. though he would sure like it if his dad could come visit.
You see, Hunter met his dad in 2017 in Florida. Hunter was living at a regional shelter and was set to be destroyed due to space limitations. Upon meeting Hunter, his dad was amazed by his personality and he adopted him. He couldn't let Hunter be put to sleep.
Hunter and his dad moved from Florida to Missouri, Quebec and finally New Brunswick where they are living together now. They have had quite the adventure and Hunter has been extremely spoiled. His dad is finding this to be a very difficult decision to make, but Hunter wants the best for his dad; He saved Hunters life, and now is able to go on to save and change countless human lives through medicine.
Hunter is in excellent health and is very fit for his age. He has no allergies or behavioural issues, making him a stress-free dog to add to your home.
At 8-years old Hunter is still able to keep up with an active lifestyle, but also appreciates his time to relax. He is a "young" 8 and still has lots of love to give for many days to come.

Hello everyone,
We are a non-profit dog rescue and we are looking for foster homes for some of the dogs in our care. Our dogs need a safe and loving environment to recover and rehabilitate, and we are seeking responsible individuals who can provide them with the care they need.
We require that foster homes have landlord permission to foster or own their own home, as our dogs need stability and a secure environment. We also prefer foster homes without other pets in the home as many of our dogs are going through decompression and rehabilitation.
Our dogs often come to us with medical issues or behavioral issues that need attention, and we will cover all of their food and medical costs. Additionally, we will provide you with bowls, kennels, collars/leashes, and toys to help with their care.
We also offer free weekly training classes to our foster homes, to help build your skills in working with dogs in a positive and effective manner. You will learn techniques such as loose leash walking, marker training, recall, reactivity, and behavior modification.

Meet Maximus, a 9-month-old Corso x Neo x Anatolian who's looking for a loving forever home. Maximus is a fun-loving and protective young dog who will make a natural guard in any setting. He loves to go for walks and is becoming reliable off leash with an e-collar. Maximus is a loving dog who is protective of his person, and he is naturally very guardy and will grow to be quite the protector. For this reason, it's important that he finds a home where his owner(s) understand how to shape these instincts and help him to flourish.
Maximus is quite dominant with other dogs, but with a more submissive dog and proper introductions, he could make a dog friend. However, we do believe that he will thrive best as the only dog in the home. He is learning to respect the cat in his foster home, but it's important to continue this training in his forever home.
Maximus is extremely food motivated and also has quite a tug drive. He's been learning how to use his mouth in appropriate situations, and he loves to bite and has developed some suitable nerves and a strong grip. He would develop into a great companion, especially for somebody who wanted to continue with his potential in protection work.
At 9 months old, Maximus is already over 90lbs and will continue to grow. For this reason, as well as his defensive drive and possession, he is not suited to a home with children.
Maximus is a wonderful dog with a lot of potential, and we're looking for a forever home that will give him the love, care, and training he needs to thrive.
