Today we have a video of a skin scraping that will show what lives in hair follicles of dogs. This little cigar shaped fella is called Demodex. Demodex is a mite that lives in or near hair follicles of all dogs. The patient will not have a reaction to these mites unless their immune system is weak or compromised. Demodex causes a skin infection that leads to dry flaky, red, crusty skin, and hair loss. With appropriate medication from your Veterinarian, a Demodex infection can be effectively treated.

Microscope Monday – Second Installment! We’re going to continue on from last Monday with the common theme of ears! Enter these tiny creepy crawlers…you guessed it, Ear Mites!
