Hello Wild Dogs family.

Tyler and I wanted to reach out to you all to express our absolute anguish over the loss of our hiking buddy, Hank. I’ve composed a post here to hopefully help you understand a bit more about what happened while Hank was in our care. Thank you, so much for taking the time to read and communicate with us. Weekend update: The dogs and I have spent so much time playing Artic Snowy Adventurers and we are plum tuckered! So it’s books, baking and bowls of left over pasta for me today. I have a sneaking suspicion that they may fancy even more snowy romps but I’m going to leave that to Tyler, these old bones deserve a rest!

Woot! It’s all kinds of bright and sunny in our winter-wonderland cabin in the woods today. I have Tina Turner pepping us up and the fire is blazing away without too much in the way of mansplaning needed to get us there. There should be an episode of Nature of Things dedicated to fire building and the human obsession with monitoring and vocally critiquing each other’s perfectly good fires. We both do it, constantly. So much so that we now have a “No Mansplaning” rule which allows whoever is building the fire to do so, confidently and in peace, without comment from other household members. It’s tough. We respect the rule a solid 65-75 percent of the time.

For the record I am the superior fire builder, don’t tell Tyler.

Oh my goodness my heart misses grass so very much!

We’ve just passed my bday which means we’ve only 3 weeks left in February and then it’s full on March! Once, in like, grade 8 I got a sunburn in March so in my mind we’re pretty much in the home stretch of winter. The birds outside my bedroom window are certainly sounding pretty chipper!

I’m not really sure what to do with my Sunday but I think I’ll spend it in my kitchen. Sunday’s have become a day for cooking and meal planning here at Wild Dogs and I can’t tell you how much I love not only spending the day working away, but also having a fridge/freezer full of food for the upcoming week. We’re hungry lads after all that hiking!

Do you ever remember being a wee kid, trundling around in all your snow pants and gear and feeling the inclination to just stop, plop down and sit there cross-legged for a few moments just to rest? I remember skiing down mountains and suddenly realizing I was bloody tired, and probably deserving of a rest so I’d ski off into the surrounding woods and just sit there for a while, watching the trees and snow sway about one another.

That was this moment today. I think my soul and my old legs were very much in need of a few moments of good old fashion snow sitting. Of course I was immediately joined by a curious pup who seemed less inclined to rest but, it was very nice for a few months there!

Well, that’s a wrap on my “work week” and this picture pretty much sums it all up. We just keep getting more and more snow at Wild Dogs but my hiking buddies are doing an excellent job of forging the way forward.
