Attention! Copied from head office:
~ALPL Pet Foodbank WILL NOT SUPPORT PETS THAT ARE NEWLY ACQUIRED~
This includes pets that were recently: adopted, rescued, purchased, or dropped off from the guy down the street, and born…We have had a number of requests lately for pregnant, or cats that just gave birth, we understand that the low cost spayed/neutered clinic has been slow to start up again after COVID but we’re adults and know where baby kittens come from KEEP YOUR UNALTERED PETS INSIDE AND AWAY FROM THE OPPOSITE S*X
I’m sure this comes across as insensitive, unsympathetic, and some of you are thinking who the h*ll are we to dictate what you can and can not do. I can see why you would think that, but keep in mind we rely on donations = limited resources.
Sadly, due to COVID, health issues and various other reasons we have people that depend on us regularly to feed their pets, and that’s what we’re here for. Life is unpredictable and sh*t happens, we would never want someone to have to chose between feeding themselves or their pet.
Within the last two months we have had people that were already receiving assistance, increase their cat count by 16 (this was multiple recipients), that’s 16 more mouths for us to feed/provide litter for, not including new people who signed up for the program. Our supply doesn’t increase in correlation with demand, so we ran out of cat food this weekend. Thankfully we have a great relationship with multiple organizations, and Parachute for Pets generously offered to give us some, but I wanted to give some insight into what we deal with , and though controversial, why this rule is in place.
We will happily assist with rehoming, or surrendering if needed, a lot of us work with various rescues and can help facilitate the process.
Please keep in mind that we are humans that have hearts and brains, that understand there are exceptions to every rule, and will be times that obtaining a new pet will be justified, so don’t be ashamed to reach out.
Take care ~ Admin 💜
