The new Alberta Stock Horse Association, formerly the NARCHC, is such a great club. From rank amateur to seasoned professional, there are classes and competirion at your level. They value and recognize their youth members, some of whom make extra money cleaning stalls or warming up horses. They are friendly and welcoming while maintaining NRCHA standards. Most important, they help and encourage each other and celebrate the success of whoever happens to win on the day.

This is sportsmanship embodied. And after the day is dine, they enjoy an evening with music and comraderie.

Donā€™t panic about anxiety. Accept it, consider your risks and move into action anyway. Once you succeed at this small action you will be able to tolerate more anxious emotions and still reman functional.

After all, achievement doesnā€™t occur in the comfort zone. If are comfortable you arenā€™t pushing toward your goals! Push out a little more. Be uncomfortable, anxious even and then enjoy the feeling of success.

Repeat this daily. Take a small well calculated risk and be anxious and successful. Talk to the boy. Ask the teacher for help. Admit your fear to a colleague. Do it now. Enjoy your success!

Our foal was born on May 21st. We've called him Memphis, after his grandad, Elvis (NMSU Truckin Chex, K.Stallings) and mom, Lisa Marie. This fellow looks like he may grow up to be a palomino like his other grandad, Shiners Voodoo Dr.

This fine gelding is for sale. Currently, in Cottonwood, Arizona with us. He is a nicely started, now 4 year old by Loveable Nic (Cheryl Mitchell's winning reiner), out of a Chics in the Male mare called SG Fair Little Chic. SOX is a reliable mount, adapts easily to new arenas, loads, hauls, grooms and has his feet shod without any fuss. He's just an easy going boy. I'm not an expert rider, by any means, so please don't blame him for any lack of mine. $10,000 USD or $13,000 Cdn after mid April when we return home to Bergen, Alberta

For those who find reined Cowhorse too slow, now you can try mounted shooting. They have a pattern, you gallop full speed, shoot blanks from a pistol - first all the yellow balloons, change revolvers, then shoot all the red ones. THe embers from the blanks hit the ballons and cause them to pop. If you want to win, don't miss, don't drop your gun & don't misfire either! Keep your horse calm but FAST and try for the best time. These are some fine riders! And good marksmen as well. I was surprised how little the pistol noise bothered the horses.

It's tough to beat riding the trails on the ranch. There is always a chorus of songbirds sharing their joy at the sun and freshness of the air. The lush, green grass wavers in the breeze and the shadows play through the tall, tall trees. Depending on the day and my mood, my favourite spot seems to change. This short video is near Cathedral Row, near the highest point on the ranch. Somedays, if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of an elk here. Today, it's just us, the trees, grass, sun and breeze - perfect!

Baby Brunswick has arrived at Bar TT Ranch. He's learning about the halter, but he's not a huge fan so far. He sure likes kicking up his heels though. What an energetic guy!

Fall Preparations

Itā€™s starting to feel like fall on the ranch. Nights are quite cool and damp but the sun does warm things up for glorious fall afternoons. Iā€™ve heard the geese honking overhead and saw the Sandhill Cranes again, heading south.

We are busy getting winter feeding areas prepared for the beef herd. Our first Grass Finished Beef will be headed to the abattoir at the end of October, and ready in our freezers at the farm store about November 15th. Check out Tall Timber Cattle Co. for more information on our cattle, our beef and how you can partake of this delicious and healthy protein this winter.

The horses are starting to run our of fresh pasture, but we were blessed with plenty of rain and lush grass all summer this year. We have our winter hay stacked in the barn - so we are ready for the stormy blasts!
