This is a good reminder since Easter is slowly approaching. Who doesn’t love Lillie’s?! But just remember they are toxic to our feline friends. 🌺 🐱

It’s better to be safe than sorry, so check which type of lily you are purchasing before you bring any flowers or plants into your home. Lilies are beautiful plants which may brighten your home, but they are highly toxic to your cat. All

February 24-28th is Veterinary Assistant Appreciation week. Where we take the time to put the light on our amazing assistants. They work really hard every single day. They are an integral part of the team. Everywhere from helping the doctors with their appointments, technicians prepping for surgery, assisting in surgery, helping the front staff, and most importantly taking care of our pets that come in to visit us.

We thank you all so much for the hard work you put in everyday to keep the place a float.

There is another article that has come out on Feb 15th, 2025 from The Washington State Department of Agriculture and the Oregon Department of Agriculture. They have issued a public health alert because of H5N1 influenza virus contamination of another brand of raw pet food, following the deaths of two more indoor cats from separate households linked to consumption of the pet food.

Please take the time to read the link below regarding this matter. Our pets nutrition is very very important. Feeding raw is not recommended by our veterinarians. If you have more questions you are welcome to go to our website to learn more under our pet health library type in "Raw Food".

As we know February is dental health month. Doing regular exams, brushing your pets teeth and doing teeth cleanings +/- extractions when necessary are very important. There is a lot of conversation happening behind the risks of anesthesia as well. At Scottsdale we take every precautionary measure to make sure your pet is safe with us. This is why we recommend doing pre surgical bloodwork +/- chest radiographs.

There is even a dental diet from Royal Canin and Hills to aid in helping keep the teeth clean as well as providing nutritional value for both dogs and cats.

Did you know?! Between 60-80 % of cats and dogs over the age of 3 have periodontal disease!?
Does your pets have bad breath? That smell might mean some health risks! Call us to get it examined.

This is Basil, one of our technician's Sarah dog. Basil just had a dental cleaning by Dr.Llewellyn last week and in this photo he was just recovering from the anesethia.

Urgent furever home needed.. Meet AKINO! 🐶

Are you looking for a horse but don't have the property? How about the next best thing.. A Great Dane!

This big and boisterous puppy is already a whopping 130 lbs at only 11 months old! He came to us unexpectedly and struggled in shelter, which is why he was so lucky to land himself an emergency foster home. Unfortunately, that home can't keep him for much longer, so now he is urgently seeking a home to call his own!

By all accounts, Akino is totally silly and absolutely lovely! He's a smart cookie and would do best in a home with someone who is eager to train using positive reinforcement methods. This handsome boy is currently learning to enjoy his extra large wire crate, which keeps him out of trouble when he's alone. Otherwise he can be quite the escape artist, as he's figured out how to open doors with lever handles.. both push AND pull!

Due to his large size, Akino would do best in an experienced home. He can get mouthy when over stimulated and is reactive to dogs on leash, so he'll require continued training to help him learn alternate behaviours.

This big boy has lived with cats, female dogs and young kids, so with the right match he could go home with them ☺️

If you have a warm couch you're willing to share, Akino would love nothing more than to cuddle up on it with you! Contact the shelter today for more info or PLEASE SHARE AND SPREAD THE WORD! 🐾

February is dental health month! 🦷 🪥

Proper dental care is just as important for pets health as dental care is to your overall health. We recommend regular dental examinations, regular teeth brushing, and cleanings when necessary!

When a pet develops dental disease increasing numbers of bacteria live within the mouth and oral tissues. The bacteria can enter the bloodstream and travel to other areas within the body causing distant or systemic effects. The systemic effects of dental disease can be minimized by being proactive!

This is Niles. One of Dr Llewellyn’s cats. Dr Llewellyn is our tooth fairy at Scottsdale! He excels in doing dental procedures. 🦷 ❤️

While the H5N1 bird flu mainly affects wild migratory water birds and domestic poultry, bird flu viruses can spread (less frequently) to mammals, including cats and humans.

Recent investigations implicate food as a source of infection for cats, most often unpasteurized milk and raw or undercooked meat (e.g., poultry).

Cats can contract bird flu by:

🐾 Drinking raw or unpasteurized milk.
🐾 Eating raw eggs.
🐾 Eating raw, undercooked, or uncooked freeze-dried meat or animal products (including retail pet diets that contain raw meat).
🐾 Hunting and eating wild birds.
🐾 Direct contact with infected dairy cows.

If you suspect your cat has bird flu, call your veterinary or emergency veterinary clinic—before taking cats in to be seen—and describe any clinical signs you have noticed so that the veterinary team can be ready when the patient arrives.

Tell the veterinarian about any contact your cat has had with livestock, poultry, or wildlife. Tell the veterinarian if your cat has had any raw or unpasteurized milk or raw or undercooked meat.

Limit your cat’s contact with immunocompromised individuals if any exposure to the virus is possible.
