To all the wonderful clients and furry friends at SSVH,
We are sad to announce that Dr. Hunter will be relocating to Vancouver Island come the New Year. It has been a joy having her here and we will miss her dearly. She has decided to move to the Comox Valley for a slower pace of life, and to enjoy all the Island has to offer.
Dr. Hunter has a few words to share with all her beloved clients and patients.
”Thank you to all the wonderful pets and clients at SSVH. As I write this I am filled with mix of emotions- gratitude, happiness, and sadness. My time at SSVH has been wonderful and that was made possible due to all the amazing staff, clients, and patients that we have. Thank you for intrusting your pets care to me and the team. I have made so many amazing memories over the last year and a half. SSVH is a very special clinic, and this is due to the amazing clients and furry friends that we get to care for. Newest Update on the CDC Dog Importation Process

CDC has clarified and simplified the process for bringing dogs into the United States from rabies-free and low risk dog rabies countries. CDC aims to protect the health of U.S. communities and animals and prevent the re-introduction of dog rabies to the United States.

These updates incorporate the feedback received from the public, industry partners, and various countries on the dog importation rule, and clarify and simplify the processes for those bringing dogs from dog rabies-free or low-risk countries. This update also includes a process for waiver requests for the airline industry.

To provide greater flexibility to the requirements for dogs coming from dog rabies-free or low-risk countries, when the rule goes into effect on August 1, 2024 [at 12:00am ET], dogs that have spent the prior six months only in dog rabies-free or low-risk rabies countries will be able to enter the United States with a CDC Import Form online submission receipt as acceptable documentation. This form can be filled out the day of travel and the receipt can be shown to airlines and border officials as a printed copy or by phone. The receipt will be good for travel into the U.S. for six months from the date of issuance, including multiple entries. All dogs entering the United States must have a microchip and be over six months of age.

Additional documents and requirements will still be in effect for dogs coming from high-risk countries. For more information and updates visit: www.cdc.gov/dogtravel.

Introducing our newest Veterinarian Dr.April Lau. Some of you may have met her already and we are excited for have her join our team!

Dr. Lau received her veterinary degree from the University of Melbourne in 2023. After graduating, Dr. Lau ultimately decided to return to B.C., where she grew up.

Dr. Lau grew up surrounded by pets since an early age which led to her developing a strong appreciation for these furry companions. Her passion and interest in animals were the main motivators in achieving her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian.

Dr. Lau has an adorable but lazy Ragdoll, "Udon". Her extended fur family also consists of "Muiju," a Bernese Pyrenees mix, and "Mocha," a rescue tabby. In her spare time, Dr. Lau enjoys taking her cat out for strolls, watching dramas, and trying out new eateries with her partner. She has also recently taken up crocheting small animal plushies. As an avid drinker of coffee and bubble tea, Dr. Lau is always up for a coffee and bubble tea run.

She is elated to take the first steps into her veterinary journey with SSVH and is looking forward to being another pillar of support for everyone.
