We rescue and care for exotic animals and educate the public about all animals of all kinds. We are about caring for animals of all kinds and all animal families - insects, fish, birds, arachnids, arthropods, amphibians, reptiles, and small mammals. We take these amazing creatures in when they are unwanted, we rescue them when the RCMP or the Department of Fish & Wildli

fe call us. care, the specialized food they need, the right kind of shelter, and stimulus. We care for them for the rest of their natural lives - some of our animals live over 100 years. We teach thousands of kids and adults each year about animals and the natural world. We do this in schools of all levels, libraries, festivals, daycares, senior homes, private homes etc. We also provide a wide variety of learning experiences at our rescue facility with tours of our animals, Nature Clubs for kids, Junior Zoo Keeping courses for teens, Adult Career Training courses, Summer Camps, Spring Break Camps, and volunteer opportunities for teens and adults. We give back to the community by supporting organizations such as BC Children's Hospital, Variety Club, Canuck Place and more. We take our animals to these kids who need an adventure, some stimulus, a chance to learn about animals of all kinds. We do this for kids in need and we do it for the warmth it adds to our lives. We do all these things with the help of dedicated volunteers, knowledgeable and experienced staff and our dedicated Board of Directors - and we do it every day of the year.

Iguana Yoga!! This is the real hot yoga! Rambo, the 10 year old Green Iguana, gets creative and has an extra stretch while eating his lunch. Iguanas are native to Central and South America. Green, or common, iguanas are among the largest lizards in the Americas, averaging around 6.5 feet long and weighing about 11 pounds.
They are also among the most popular reptile pets in North America, despite being quite difficult to care for properly. In fact, most captive iguanas die within the first year, and many are either turned loose by their owners or given to reptile rescue groups.

Happy Earth Day! Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. All the animals at Urban Safari Rescue Society hope you can celebrate this day. Take the bus, go for a walk and enjoy the trees and birds, volunteer at an organization supporting conservation, pick up some litter, spread the word of Earth Day around the world, breathe some fresh air. Be kind and be grateful for our Earth Mother. She is going through changes. The Earth will be fine but we must adapt to conserve ourselves and all other life who call Earth home. The Nature Conservancy of Canada is a great organization to support. Among other things, they buy up land and keep it in trust safe from development, mining, forestry and create a home for our wildlife. www.natureconservancy.ca or consider donating to Urban Safari Rescue Society. www.urbansafari.ca we are the only registered charity in BC dedicated to the rescue of exotic animals. We will be participating again this year at the City of Surrey's Party for the Planet. We will be inside in the lobby of city hall and at 12:20pm we will be on stage doing a mini presentation. Hope to see you there.

On the weekend we had the pleasure of a visit from the 1st Abbotsford Cub Scouts. Paul, Dohun, Miles, Kaija and Kaydence. They raised money for us through a bottle drive and with that money purchased items that we need such as veggies for tortoises and lizards, Finch food, turtle food and more. THEN they stayed to volunteer for a few hours cleaning the Guinea Pig cages, tortoise room and cleaning up an outdoor area where we will be planting grass to make a picnic area for visitors. Wow guys !! Thank you so much !! You have made a big difference and we are inspired by your hard work. We hope you receive your Seeonee Award Thank you!!

Meet Sol, with one of her favourite fabric octopuses. Sol is a ten year old Sugar Glider who was surrendered a couple days ago. Sol's best friend died and Sol's owners are moving out of province. Sol is settling in very nicely - eating, drinking ,sleeping all day and playing at night, just what Sugar Gliders do.
Sugar Gliders are native to Australia and New Guinea. They live high up in the canopy of trees in large colonies of 10 to 30 individuals. They live on insects, tree sap and fruit. They are super cute but really NOT a good pet choice because they are asleep when you want to play with them and awake when you want to sleep. The food they eat also attracts insects into your home.

Starfire the Leopard Gecko is wondering where the sun went?? Starfire was surrendered to us a few months ago. It had been attacked by the former owners cat and lost its tail. It is fairly common for many species of lizards to loose their tails. It is a form of self defense. Starfire will not eat live bugs, like other Leopard Geckos. He will only eat carnivore care, a special special mixture of ingredients mixed with water. He must be hand fed several times a week. Other than that Starfire recovered nicely.

WooHoo!! Amazing news! We finally received the building permits from the City of Surrey to restore the smoke damaged room. Now restoration can begin and we hope it goes quickly and smoothly. For months we have been planning and re imagining the interior space and now we can start that work for real.
We don't yet have a timeline of when we can reopen, it still depends on contractors etc. But we hope to be open soon. We will announce that happy day so stay tuned. If anyone would like to donate money or materials for the restoration we would be very grateful and so would the animals. Since we are a registered charity, and the only one in BC dedicated to exotic animals, we can issue official tax receipts for donations of money. Contact us at [email protected] or you can donate through our web site www.urbansafari.ca

Yin, the Whites Tree Frog, is having a zen kind of day. Perfect!
Whites Tree Frogs are native to Australia and New Guinea. A milky white coating called "caerviein" helps them survive in dry areas but they prefer rain forest areas. These frogs range in color from a light blue to emerald green or almost gray across their backs and milky white bellies. Like many other tree frogs, White's tree frogs can change color to some degree. HUH! Interesting!
