Come lope circles with Gman ✨
First ride off line for Betty Lou this weekend 👏 Of course she handled it like a pro!
First rides off line are focusing on keeping energy in her feet, allowing her to move freely all over the arena and simply asking her to follow a soft open rein!
I like to keep things simple and slow for the first few rides, once again setting her up for success with a relaxing intro to riding.
Before riding off line I always ground drive my colts! This helps them have an understanding of steering and moving forward independently before adding a rider to the mix.
As you can see her expressions stays soft, relaxed and she even offers some licking and chewing!!

✨Teaching your horse to carry the turnaround✨
Give your cues to start the maneuver; light pressure from your seat, leg and rein to start the turnaround, once your horse takes a step release all pressure. If you feel your horse want to quit or walk out, allow them to make that mistake. Simply apply the same cues with the same pressure you started with to guide them back into the turnaround, and again release when they take the first step.
Let your horse think for themselves and find the release in the maneuver. In doing so you help create an equine partner who has the drive, softness and willingness to preform.
Continuing to hold your horse and forcing them to preform the turnaround will create a tight, tense horse that physically is with you but mentally is fighting you every step.
Our goal is always to work with the horse, allowing them to think about what they’re being asked to do. Keeping them soft during every maneuver is key to creating a willing equine partner with a solid foundation that will last a lifetime.
👏Let your horse make the mistake👏
Let them make the mistake then show them the correct answer 👏
