A Friendly Reminder

As the Christmas holiday nears, we ask that you check your pet's prescription quantity and food inventory to ensure you have enough to get through until after the New Year. We have been experiencing back-orders on some diets. There also will be delayed or reduced shipping over the holidays. Please call the office if your pet requires a prescription refill or to order special diets.

We are having intermittent internet outages. Which means our phones and Interac (debit/credit) may not be working when you arrive at the office.

Tick season is well underway!!! Just this week alone we have seen an increase in the amount of tick bourne diseases in our patients.

Are you aware that ticks will begin questing once the temperatures are above 0 degrees. Making the season almost 9-10 months long.

Awareness and prevention are key for us, as humans and your pet.

We would like to wish our clients and patients a safe and happy holiday.

Questing Season is upon us!!

Can you spot the tick?

How ticks spread disease:

Ticks transmit pathogens that cause disease through the process of feeding.

Depending on the tick species and its stage of life, preparing to feed can take from 10 minutes to 2 hours. When the tick finds a feeding spot, it grasps the skin and cuts into the surface.

The tick then inserts its feeding tube. Many species also secrete a cement-like substance that keeps them firmly attached during the meal. The feeding tube can have barbs which help keep the tick in place.

Ticks also can secrete small amounts of saliva with anesthetic properties so that the animal or person can’t feel that the tick has attached itself. If the tick is in a sheltered spot, it can go unnoticed.

A tick will suck the blood slowly for several days. If the host animal has a bloodborne infection, the tick will ingest the pathogens with the blood.
Small amounts of saliva from the tick may also enter the skin of the host animal during the feeding process. If the tick contains a pathogen, the organism may be transmitted to the host animal in this way.

After feeding, most ticks will drop off and prepare for the next life stage. At its next feeding, it can then transmit an acquired disease to the new host.

As we inch forward from "active pandemic" status to "living with Covid-19", we are re-opening our doors to clients. This re-opening will be done cautiously, and in stages. The parking lot will continue to serve as our waiting room for our first phase. Following your arrival, your pet will be checked in by one of our team members. Should you wish to be with your pet during your appointment, you must remain masked while in our building. Only one family member will be allowed inside, please. During your appointment, a team member will hold your pet for the veterinarian or technician to allow for maximum attainable social distancing. If diagnostics or treatment is required, you will be asked to return to your car while these services are performed. Payments, collection of prescriptions and dietary products will continue to be handled outside.

As always, any abusive language or threatening behaviour will not be tolerated. Please be civil to our team members.

As the Covid landscape changes, our operational protocols will be adjusted accordingly. As we navigate through this pandemic, a top priority must be keeping both our team and our clients safe.

We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation, and we look forward to seeing you inside once again.

A very Happy New Year to all and may 2022 see the end of this Pandemic.
I wish to take this opportunity to thank my wonderful staff for the magnificent job they do. They continue to come to work, knowing the risks of Covid. They truly are dedicated to the care and well-being of your furry, scaly, and feathered family members.
To our clients that have stood beside us through these trying times, thank you. Your support and words of encouragement are much appreciated and help us make it through each day.
As Omicron makes its way through our population, there will be staff shortages or even closures at most veterinary clinics, further exacerbating the already heavy workload. Please be patient. Seek help early if your pet is showing any indication of a potential health issue.
Please remember masks are required in our parking lot, especially when in close contact with our staff. If you are medically exempt from wearing a mask, please call ahead so we can arrange alternative methods to provide service to you and your pet.
Any verbal abuse or threatening behaviour toward our staff in the parking lot will not be tolerated. These are deemed Workplace Safety issues. You will be asked to leave our premises. This also holds true for telephone conversations; any verbally abusive or threatening language will not be tolerated. If you have legitimate concerns or need clarification on our services and protocols please make use of our e-mail. We will address these questions as soon as possible. If you choose to use our e-mail as a way to promote your opinions on masking, vaccinations and the pandemic, it will be treated as SPAM.
Our time, like yours, is valuable. We must concentrate on the health and well-being of your pet family members. We will make it through this but only if we work together, with tolerance and understanding.
