Client awareness:
This is Marcus, he is one of our vet tech dogs who was so proud to help another dog Remi by giving his blood to her. Remi was a very sick puppers and Marcus helped her through. Remi is a very sweet loving dog, who has a little brother she has to see to the bus every morning, so she deserves every chance she could get for her and her amazing family.

Blood transfusions are not well known when it comes to dogs. Dogs can and do need blood transfusions from time to time. Donors are hard to come by, if you have ever wondered about it before or want to know the criteria then please read below. We are looking for amazing humans and amazing super dogs who are willing to donate.

Criteria:
• Our clinic will test your dog to see if they are able to donate. That test gets sent away.
• Between the ages of 1-7 years old
• Healthy
• Up to date on vaccines
• At least 30 kg (66 lbs) or above (bigger the better)

Procedure:
• No cost to the donor family
• The donor patient will have a light sedation. This ensures they stay still long enough for a proper blood draw
• We place an IV Catheter and start them on IV fluids prior to donation. Once we start the blood draw, we increase the fluids, once the blood draw is done, we keep the donor dog on IV fluids to help replenish the donor.
• We then transfuse the sick patient
• Minimal risk to the donor patient

Unfortunately we are still unable to open, and will be closed Thursday Feb 8th.

Our staff is still unable to get out of their driveways. Hopefully the roads will clear up soon and we can get back to seeing all your fur/scale/feather babies.

I hope everyone is keeping safe and sound at home given the unprecedented amount of snowfall that has impacted Cape Breton.

Due to the current road conditions, most of our staff are still unable to get out of their driveways and unfortunately, we will not be able to open tomorrow, Wednesday, February 7th. Hopefully the roads will clear up soon and we can get back to seeing all your fur/scale/feather babies.

Scout was in for his last set of puppy vaccines today with Dr. Campbell. He is a registered support companion, therapy dog, and in his off time he is training to be a birddog! This handsome guy goes to work with his dad to help boost morale at the Victoria Park military base.
Scout is now fully vaccinated for the next year and is up to date with his flea, tick, and parasite treatments to ensure the safety of the humans and animals he visits!

UPDATE: power is back! We are OPEN Friday, December 22nd

The clinic is currently experiencing a power outage with an expected return time of 10pm this evening. We’ve contacted those with appointments today to reschedule.
