🌟 Sadie’s Success Story! 🌟

We couldn’t be happier to share an update on Sadie, a beautiful 2-year-old Rottweiler mix who found her forever home through Island Dog Lodge. Sadie has been with us since she was a puppy, and our team worked tirelessly to help her grow into the confident and loving dog she is today.

Her new family is over the moon with how quickly she’s adjusted to her new life! In just a short time, Sadie has already settled into a regular routine and feels comfortable walking side by side with her sister Daisy. This progress is especially heartwarming considering her previous family’s concerns about potential resource guarding. When Sadie arrived, we carefully watched for any signs and took steps to ensure this behavior didn’t escalate. Resource guarding can develop from stress or jealousy, but with the right approach, it can be managed or even prevented.

If you’re worried about resource guarding with your dog, here are a few tips:

1. Teach “Leave It” and “Drop It” Commands: These can help your dog feel more secure knowing they can let go of something without losing it forever.
2. Feed Dogs Separately: If you have multiple pets, feeding them in different areas can reduce competition and tension.
3. Avoid Taking Items Forcefully: If your dog has something they shouldn’t, offer a trade instead of just taking it away. This helps reduce anxiety around possession.

We are overjoyed to announce that Violet, a lovely 5-year-old purebred Whippet, has found her forever home! We had the pleasure of assisting Cassandra from in ensuring Violet found the perfect family to spend her golden years with.

During her time with us, Violet underwent a thorough behavioural assessment. This included allowing her decompression time upon arrival so she could slowly get to know the team. We then facilitated slow introductions based on her comfort levels, even using our therapy goats to help Violet feel at ease.

We observed her interactions with other dogs, her behaviour when alone, and how she engaged with our staff. This detailed evaluation allowed us to gain valuable insights into Violet’s temperament and needs.

But our commitment didn’t stop there. We also carefully assessed potential adopters, making sure that Violet's new family would be the best fit for her. We are incredibly proud to have played a role in this successful match, providing Violet with the best opportunity for a happy and fulfilling life.

🎓 Congratulations to Kehione on graduating from our Board & Bond Canine Coaching Program! 🐾 Kehione is a beautiful samoyed female. As part of her program we tackled challenges like frequent house accidents and addressed some developing behavioural issues. Over two weeks, we implemented a tailored plan with varied fitness activities based on her breed and a nutrition overhaul. She thrived on Inukshuk and Shady Maple Raw foods, both local to the Maritimes. These high-quality foods not only provide essential nutrients but can also address the root of many behavioral issues in dogs. The right diet is key to your dog's overall health, happiness, and well-being. Health and happiness go hand in hand, and it all starts with proper nutrition. We're proud of Kehione's progress and excited to see her continue to flourish! 🌟

🌞🐶 **Tips for Keeping Your Dog Cool in the Summer Heat** 🐶🌞

Summer is a wonderful time for adventures with your furry friends, but it's important to keep them safe from the heat. Different breeds have different needs, so here are some tips to ensure your pup stays cool and comfortable:

1. **Shade and Water**: Always provide a shady spot and plenty of fresh water. A cooling mat or a kiddie pool can be a fun way to help them stay cool.

2. **Avoid Peak Heat**: Walk your dog early in the morning or late in the evening when it's cooler. Hot pavement can burn their paws, so check the ground with your hand before heading out.

3. **Special Considerations for Black Dogs**: Black dogs absorb more heat, so they can feel the heat more intensely. Keep them in the shade as much as possible and consider a cooling vest.

4. **Short-Nosed Breeds**: Bulldogs, French Bulldogs, and other brachycephalic breeds have difficulty breathing in the heat. Limit their outdoor time, provide frequent breaks, and keep them out of direct sunlight.

5. **Car Safety**: Never leave your dog in a parked car, even with the air conditioning on. Crates can feel different to dogs than they do to humans, and temperatures can rise quickly. If you must travel, ensure your car is well-ventilated and take regular breaks.

6. **Recognize Heat Stroke**: Signs include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, and collapse. If you suspect your dog has heat stroke, act quickly but carefully.

**What NOT to Do if Your Dog Has Heat Stroke**:
- **Don't Cool Down Too Quickly**: Avoid using ice packs or giving them ice cubes. Rapid cooling can cause shock. Instead, use cool (not cold) water and damp towels.
- **Don't Force Water**: Let them drink small amounts of water at their own pace.

SADIE HAS FOUND HER FUREVER HOME!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Sadie made the brave travel to NEWFOUNDLAND last night to meet her new family and most importantly her new sister DAISY 🌼
They are mirror images of each other and both have been rescued by this amazing family who will be providing sadie with a happy & loving home❤️🐾

While preparing for this voyage the last few weeks, our team took unbelievable care and gave tons of love to sadie during her stay with us.
Very grateful we could ensure and be a part of sadie finding the home she deserves.
We will miss her💕

Thankyou to everyone who asked about adopting her, it takes a village and your kindness is outstanding.

Sadie made her trip on the ferry successfully this morning and we are told she did extremely well and is adjusting and giving kisses💋

Our emblem and logo were designed with care, compassion, and trust. developed a mission statement that completely embodies who we are. The dog silhouette represents two family members who changed our lives. They are the reason for this journey, and although we wish they were still here, they are here at the lodge in spirit and strength, looking down from the rainbow bridge, watching all the dogs come through our Big Red doors with tails wagging!

They are forever bonded with love and will forever be present at the lodge.

From a young age, I've harbored a deep affection for animals and have cared for many throughout my life. This lifelong passion continues to flourish as I nourish my love for animals daily.

Beyond my professional life, I have a keen interest in outdoor activities, sports, and spending quality time with friends. After completing my studies, I made the exciting decision to relocate to Sydney with my partner. Here, I am thrilled to further enhance my knowledge and adoration for dogs, all while being a valuable member of our exceptional team.

Happy Canada Day! 🇨🇦 🦮 🐕‍🦺 🐕 we are celebrating the day at the Lodge with our overnight lodging guests. **REGULAR DAY CARE IS CLOSED TODAY** Enjoy the day and the celebrations with your family members. Remember to stay safe with all the firework celebrations that will happen today. Remember these safety tips:
1. **Pre-Fireworks Potty Break:** Take your pup out for their business between 6-7:30 PM before the fireworks start.

2. **Create a Safe Haven:** Set up a cozy, windowless room with plenty of toys and treats to keep them distracted.

3. **Mask the Noise:** Play soothing sounds like white noise or "Through a Dog’s Ear" playlist on Spotify to drown out the loud bangs.

4. **Stay Calm:** Avoid adding to their anxiety by staying calm yourself. Your tranquility will reassure them.

Wei is our wonderful Canine Handler & Stylist at Island Dog Lodge. His expertise and genuine love for dogs make him an invaluable member of our team. Wei is responsible for the baths and tidies we offer, ensuring your furry friends look their best while also providing exceptional care and love. His dedication to understanding each dog's unique personality and preferences ensures that every pup enjoys a pleasant and stress-free experience.

Wei adores his job because he gets to spend every day with your adorable pups, forming bonds and friendships that go beyond just a professional relationship. His daily motivation is driven by the happiness and well-being of the dogs he cares for, always aiming to make their day as enjoyable as possible.

Before joining Island Dog Lodge, Wei gained invaluable experience working at an animal hospital in his native home. There, he handled administrative and accounting tasks, and learned how to comfort anxious dogs with gentle pets and soothing tones. This experience laid the foundation for his skills in pet care, including bathing and nail trimming.
