If you bring your daughter to a rodeo, expect to come home the next day with a horse and three metal cans.
Give your daughter a horse and three metal cans and then she will want to barrel race. You’ll buy her a barrel saddle, followed by a breast collar, saddle pad and all the other barrel racing things.
Then she will ask to take lessons. So you will look for a local stables that teaches barrel lessons. After taking some lessons you will start to socialise with the barrel racing community...and then life as you know it, will end.
Before you know it, she will want to go to shows and rodeos… there will be no more lazy weekends watching TV. You will see more sunrises than you ever thought possible!
Every spare minute of your time will be spent driving your daughter and her horses around to every barrel race their is. And now your daughter is enduring a crazy addiction to practice for the next show every time you get home from one.
Your house may be a mess, and your car will be dirty. All because you took your daughter to a rodeo. Your weekends will be spent freezing or burning to death on a fold up chair. And their weekends will be spent gaining confidence, new friends, learning new skills, having fun and getting dirty!!!!
You will be there the day she takes the first few steps around that metal can, you will be there the first time she has a super fast barrel run, you will be there when she gets her first ribbon, and you will be there to watch her make her first win. And those moments will make you SO proud. Other parents will congratulate you, but you feel weird saying thank you because it's not you on the horse, it’s your daughter. It's everything that SHE did, it’s everything that SHE achieved. And right before your eyes, your little girl will be transformed from the baby who bounced around on their rocking horse into an exceptional young horse enthusiast on the hunt for her next pro rodeo or maybe even the NFR!
When you let your daughter barrel race you give her more then just something to play around doing. You give her a sport, a talent, hope and dreams. Friends, a new family, a place to learn about life, room to grow as a person and a place where they can push their limits. You give her bravery, courage, and memories. And she will have ALL of these things, simply because you took her to a rodeo!
Because you took your daughter to just one simple rodeo, you too will develop new lifelong friendships, developed solely from the same passion for the sport. You will have an entire barrel racing family because you gave your daughter the chance to follow her dreams.
Then one day, many years from today…she will be in her room and a certain trophy will catch her eye. She will pick it up and realise instantly that when you gave her the opportunity to barrel race, you also gave her a childhood that she will never forget. At this point, you realise that everything you gave up along the way and sacrificed was totally worth it…..
And its all because you took your daughter to a rodeo...

Deadline is today to sign up for the clinic this weekend. If we don’t get a couple more people to register today I’m afraid we will be cancelling it.

For those on the fence about it, this is an opportunity to work on anything and everything you would like help with. From trail to horsemanship, equitation and even lead changes.

Hey there everyone! Just following up with those of you who were wanting to come to the Horse in Hand Ranch and have a great weekend of learning and trying new things! We still have some openings and I would love to see you there!

Primary focus of part of the weekend will be trail but there is lots of flexibility to work on other things as well. Horsemanship, Showmanship maybe even some western riding.
Also a great opportunity to get your horses out before the show season gets in full swing.

I will be contacting some of you directly but I am attaching the link to register for the weekend. We are keeping it smaller so that there is lots of opportunity to try new things and get some one on one time.

Looking forward to seeing you all!

The problem with horse training is that society is set up to believe that you can buy a service and have things the way you want in a certain time frame. People look at horse training as if they're spending their money on a product. And yet even the best horse trainers will tell you the horse takes its own time, and no one can guarantee a horse will be doing what you want from it when you want from it.

The other problem is that even if your trainer can get it done with your horse, it doesn't necessarily mean that you will be able to. Getting a horse right takes an amount of commitment on the owners part to develop the same type of relationship that the trainer has, otherwise how can you expect from your horse for yourself what your trainer gets, when it's they who have put in the hours, the and sweat, the patience and the desire to get along with that horse? You aren't spending money on a tune up for your car that you can take home and drive.

The fact that money is involved leads people to believe they deserve something for what they paid, and they do, but, it happens in the animals time, not the humans. I think any good trainer would say they would do this for free if they could, just to help horses and people. And yet, we all have to eat...

DO IT FOR THE HORSE. 🐴

Next time you enter the showpen, do it for the horse.

Not for you.
Not for the judge, judging you.
Not for the owner or yourself.
Not for the critic on the side.

But for the horse.

Enter that pen, making it the best experience for your horse, take the stress away (because they can feel it) go in that pen to make it a positive experience for your horse. Make that pen the happy place, smile, fake it till you can, crack a joke before you go in, cause they can feel that too.

Ride the horse you have, forgive the mistakes right after they happen and move on, celebrate with a smile or a sigh of relief when you hit that lead change, they can feel that too, and talk to them and tell them to finish strong, cause they feel that energy of confidence too.

Make it about your horse, and they will give you everything they got.
