Yesterday was incredible despite the heat! We had such an amazing team of volunteers, and competors. Our first fun run went smoothly and it felt amazing to finally have our first unofficial event under our belt.

Thank you so much to Leah Kenny for spending her Friday with me setting up and prepping, Mira Iryna and family, Rhonda, Erica, Sonia, Cory and everyone else who stepped up the moment anything needed to be done. Autumn Melnychuk for belaying the dogs and running the track sled and eveyone else who picked up a task whenever it was needed.

We ran two events and the dogs and humans all had an awesome experience. We have Kayla Mastel take 1st place in wall with her dog Banks and Megan with Kyri take 1st place in weight pull. The other dogs all performed with so much heart and had a great time.

I guess this is a good time to give everyone a teaser that we are bringing Jay Jack back for summer 2025! Those dates will be released September 1st 🤩

We will be offering SR classes to prepare for SR titles and the plan is the first official full weekend GRC event in Western Canada!

STAY TUNED 🖤

☀️ FAQ - FUN RUN 2024 ☀️

❓ Can I come watch?

♦️YES! We encourage spectators at our public events. Please remember the importance of leaving dogs alone. We are a ignore the dog let them work community. If you are not competing please leave your dogs at home. It is going to be a very hot day! Dogs not competing or doing tryits will not be permitted.

❓Can my dog try a game?

♦️YES! After each competition event we are offering $10 try its for anyone with a dog they wants to play. If you choose not to bring your dog this time around you are welcome to join us for one of our weekly drop in days!

❓Where do we park?

♦️ We will have visitor and competitor parking laid out in a digital map we are posting on the page tomorrow!

This will show everyone where the events are taking place, where to park, where the bathroom is and where you can find a cooling station.

❓ Will there be prizes?

♦️ Both events will have place ribbons and prizes! We have had some great prizes donated by some industry friends too. More on that tomorrow!

❓ Will there be food?

♦️ This will be a pretty short event so because of that we will not be offering lunch. Please pack your own snacks 🙂

❓ Will there be shade?

♦️ Very minimal shade options on our property but we are preparing shade/cooling stations for everyone. This is why we ask attendees to leave any dogs not competing at home!

WEIGHT PULL

Duration:
One minute / pull.
Must make three successful pulls to qualify.

Equipment.
One sled (no wheels or rails) and 15 ft. / 4.5 m track.

Weight Never goes down.
Declare starting weight.
After each pull, declare the next weight.
The line that attaches the sled to the dog must be brought to tension.
The line, while still in contact with the ground, will have no slack in it.
The judge will tell you that you’re ready.
Once you break contact with the dog at the beginning of the pull, you may not contact them again until after the pull has been called complete.

Must make 3 successful pulls to Qualify at the event. May make as many as you want.
Judge may call a tangle if they deem it unsafe, and untangle the dog. This may be done once per pull. Sled will be stopped and restarted on the spot the tangle is called.

Handler may request the tangle to be called. Courtesy pulls may be given after a foul or handler withdraw. Sled may be manipulated, but the dog may not be. Gentle leash pressure may be used to guide the dog to the starting point. Any pressure over 9 seconds or enough to stabilize yourself will be a foul. No harsh use of leash.

Any signs of avoidance or timidity can be fouled. After hooked to Sled, handler must store or wear on person without slack. Hands must be empty. No bait allowed on the track.

No biting of the leash or harness for the reward event. ONLY social reward is allowed. A dog that must “follow themselves” may have up to 2 minutes break. If
your name is called to the line of departure…. You have 2 minutes to appear or foul out.

You may not “walk the track”. You must enter and proceed directly to the line of departure.

How the GRC levels are determined

● Level 1: Handler allowed on track. Can Restrain until release. Allowed one foul. Any signs of avoidance or timidity can be fouled out.

● Level 2: Dog must be called to the middle and hooked up in that position. Dog must go down. Handler must move to handler mark. May be anywhere on track after the call, but must not contact. Any signs of avoidance or timidity can be fouled.

● Level 3: Must remove leash and tactical heel from entry to line. Get hooked up in middle position. Dog must down. Handler must move past end of track.
Must stay over the line. May not contact the dog until AFTER pull is called.

Any signs of avoidance or timidity can be fouled.
*No food or toys in the ring.
* Any object the dog bites will result in a DQ. Either it’s a known reward strategy and therefore cheating. Or, a loss of control on the dogs’s part. Either way. DQ.

Minimum Qualifying Scores

Level 1 title= 1.5x Body Weight (BW) Pull minimum.
Level 2 title= 2xBW
Level 3 title= 2.5xBW

Tie Breaker
If the weight is tied, it will go to the fastest pull. If the time is also tied, it will go to the lighter dog.

Participant Equipment
Collar: Properly fitted, flat, metal buckle collar
Leash: 6 Ft / 1.8 m max length.
Properly fitted Weight Pull Harness (X back w with spreader bar. Spreader bar no more than
6 inches from back of outstretched leg.)

Footwear: Actual closed footwear (shoes or boots).
Clothing: Attire that allows for the performance of the required exercises without distracting
the dogs.

Fun Run Competors ‼️

Be prepared with a vehicle shade tarp or to run your a/c as there is minimal shade on the property

Bring loads of water
Cooling vests or pads for your dogs are great options

Dog 🐕
Crate when benched in vehicle
Secure equipment is required
Flat collar (cannot be slipped out of)
Necessary harnesses for games (we have wall harnesses to lend, bring your own wp harnesses)
4-6 foot leash (no long lines or retractable leashes)
Wall climb toy if competing in wall

Human 🙋‍♀️
Closed toed shoes are mandatory to compete
Hat (if you don’t like the sun)
Camping chair
Sunscreen & water
Pack a lunch

We will have splash/cooling stations set up for competition dogs to keep cool between runs

We are hanging some shade flags around the property line you are welcome to park by and utilize between events and when waiting for your turn. Park at least one vehicle apart to give teams space to load/unload their dogs.

Dogs DO NOT meet on leash‼️

All events will have a dog working, a dog “on deck” and a dog “in the hole”. Dogs enter and exit the event area in opposite directions to avoid any cross over. We will have a runner to call out the running order to ensure things run smoothly so please pay attention to the call orders when events begin.

Some turns move along very quickly.

We can’t wait to see your dogs work 🤩

Leading up to our fun run we wanted to give everyone a break down of the events and rules. We are following the GRC Dogsports rules as we are hoping to have an official event next summer when Jay Jack is back!!!

WALL CLIMB

Duration: Must make 3 successful climbs to qualify

Equipment: Regulation wall and tug
(Harnesses can be provided for belay)
The toy must be secured horizontally by velcro or magnets.

The handler will declare a starting height for the first run upon registering. Each dog must make three attempts without a foul for any attempt to count. At all three levels, the highest jump wins the round.

If the dog misses the attempted height they may reset and attempt two more times for a total of three. Three strikes and you foul out.

The handler and dog will approach the start line. The handler will remove the leash and wear it on his or her body for the duration and attach the belay.

At the line of departure the judge or a helper may call attention to the toy if handler requests.

The toy must be still before sending the dog.

After each run, the handler can declare a height change to a higher level. The toy may not move down. The dog must climb the wall, grab the toy, and hold it until asked to release it by the handler.

The handler will have three attempts to signal a verbal OUT command, allowing 5 seconds for each attempt if the dog does not Out on the first command.

Courtesy runs (lowering the toy) are allowed after a failed attempt if requested by the handler.

After each run, the team may have 15 seconds to celebrate with the toy before starting the next run.

Puppy Finn has joined us for our Puppy Kickstart Program 🖤

He is learning how to make good decisions when he’s excited, walk polite on a leash and most importantly recall!

Our young herding breeds can seem like they have a mind of their own but in reality they are just motivated. We help puppies find value in the handler so they can still enjoy life while having safety in place.

We have offered a huge variety of services in our 10 years of business and coming this fall things will look a little different around here.

Some of the services you all love will still be available but will look a lot different in order for us to give you the absolute most with your programs.

Stay tuned over the summer while we slowly introduce these new offerings we know you will all appreciate!
