If I could get across one message to all people looking for a puppy, it would be this:

Take. Your. Time.

Whether you’re excited that you just bought a new place and can finally have the dog of your dreams or your family/partner gave you the go ahead or you’re finically able to invest in a dog - I urge you despite all the excitement and anticipation to take your time and be smart in your decision on who you’re giving your well earned money to and the ethics behind that said person.

It’s more than just a puppy. With each purchase of a dog, you’re supporting that breeder, that BYB or that Puppy Mill to continue.

Ethical breeders invest back into their dogs through health testing, titles, education, expanding set-ups, and breeding investments and will act as a life long support system for you and their puppy. Backyard Breeders and Puppy Mills do not. Each successful purchase from an uneducated home just lines their pockets to continue breeding ill, poorly bred, and socialized dogs who deserve so much better.

I encourage you all to have patience and be persistent and stick through those missed breedings or long wait lists from ethical breeders. By doing so, you’re not only investing in a well-bred dog but you’re choosing to line with the side of Breed Preservationists and supporting those who’s soul passion in life is to keep our beloved purebred dogs here for all of us to enjoy and love for many years to come.

Should you decide that the wait for a well-bred dog is not in the cards for you, please consider a rescue instead and ensure you have the lifestyle fitting for the breed traits in the dog you’re adopting.

While I will continue to take these calls and educate those who listen until I’m red in the face or old and grey, my hope lies in the hands of the wonderful families and individuals looking for their next Purebred dog. For the love of purebred dogs, let’s do better - for them and the ethical breeders behind them.

This is really sad. How do you treat 70 dogs with respect and humanity. The SPCA has lost all my respect. In New Brunswick, you must register, follow guidelines imposed by the New Brunswick SPCA to get a kennel number. How can the SPCA approve this operation? This is like a commercial puppy mill in this day an age. This is totally unexceptable. This is the ad they are sending out to the public below,

Please take the time to read if your looking towards getting a new personal or family companion in the near future.
As a breeder, I take the responsibility quite seriously to find the most compatible families for my pups to become loyal family companions. This past weekend I was contacted by two people looking towards purchasing a puppy from my breeding program.
I treat everyone equal when I start questioning them on their intentions for purchasing a new family companion. After talking to these two people and doing some investigation by myself I found out the inquiries whereby back yard breeders. As a breeder don’t agree with the breeding ethics of back yard breeders. People need to more educated on their choice of using a back yard breeder compared to a reputable breeder for picking their new companion.
Back yard breeders are hurting all the breeds which this occurs in. They usually bring two breeding animals together regardless of their quality. They are not interested in scientific breeding. Their aim is to fulfill a personal need or goal, not to improve the breed and bring excellent quality dogs to the world. Since breed excellence is generally unimportant, the breeding dogs generally will not have been tested for genetic and health problems.
Getting a pup from a back yard breeder is a gamble:
• the parents likely have not been screened for health problems
• puppies usually are not sold with contracts and no future support to the buyer
• the breeders are not in it for the long haul
• They will be working on new personal objectives in five years when your pet has a problem and you need help.
Reputable breeders do not breed puppies for a profit. They do it for the betterment of the breed, for the love of dogs, and… well… for the fun of it. And they very rarely make a profit on a litter of puppies
• Reputable breeder breeds to the standard, including the parts that address temperament, intelligence, and working ability
• Reputable breeder breeds to improve the breed, and only to improve the breed and has no more litters than necessary to do so
• Reputable breeder studies the pedigrees of their dogs and they know their bloodlines
• Reputable breeder keeps no more dogs than he or she can provide quality nutritional and medical care, and attention and training for
• Reputable breeders shows his or her stock in conformation and/or performance and working events to evaluate his or her dogs against others in the breed (preferably both)
• Reputable breeders tests all breeding stock for known and testable genetic disorders
• Reputable breeders carefully screens prospective buyers and matches each dog or puppy to the right home
• Reputable breeders sells or places pets with spay/neuter contracts and limited registration
• Reputable breeders takes back any dog he or she has produced at any point in the dog's life should the dog for any reason need rehoming
Although you might pay less for the breed of your choice from a back yard breeder, it's almost a given that in the long run, you'll pay a good deal more in vet bills and perhaps emotional bills (if the dog has to be euthanized due to a health or temperament problem), than you would from a reputable breeder.

Some people think dogs that are trained in Schutzhund do not produce good family companions, this is far from the truth.
