Yesterday we celebrated International Women’s Day. Tavistock Veterinarians is proud of all the women in agriculture, and we wanted to recognize all of the women who are farmers, food processors, nutritionists, sales representatives, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and support staff for their hard work and dedication to the agriculture industry. Today, and every day, we thank you for ensuring the delivery of high quality products to consumers in Canada and around the world.
Picture 1: the large animal veterinarians of Tavistock Vets.
Picture 2: routine ultrasonography of the female reproductive organs allows for accurate diagnosis of pregnancy and fetal abnormalities. This also provides us with information regarding the stage in the estrus cycle for appropriate selection of reproductive programs.
Picture 3: this picture shows a standing right flank surgery to correct a left displaced abomasum (LDA). There was a local anesthetic (freezing) applied before surgery so the cow didn’t feel anything!
Picture 4: a calf was born with a 5th leg (yes FIVE legs!). The abnormal leg was attached to the dorsal cervical neck. The calf was sedated and a local anesthetic was applied. The abnormal leg was safely removed, and the calf is doing very well to this day!
Picture 5: in this picture one of our veterinarians is performing an ultrasound of a calf’s lungs to assess for lung consolidation that indicates acute or chronic pneumonia as part of our Calf Program. Calves with preweaning lung consolidation have been shown to produce 525 kg less milk in first lactation alone compared to calves without lung consolidation.
Picture 6: a calf was born with an abnormal mass arising from its eyelid. The team took great care to make sure the mass was removed safely and the calf did not feel any pain or discomfort during and after the procedure.
Picture 7: the staff who answer your phone calls, place all of your orders, organize your proAction paperwork, and keep us all in line! The clinic wouldn’t run smoothly if it wasn’t for Elizabeth, Lois, Sarah S and Sarah D, and we appreciate them for their hard work.
Not pictured: our RVTs Alana and Racheal! They work hard every single day and are a vital part of our team
