Chick orders are now open! 🐥
It may be the dead of winter but it’s time to start thinking about ordering your chicks for spring 🌸

We’re now taking orders for many types of poultry chicks, pheasants and new this year, Guinea fowl.

As many of you may know, our supplier had some unfortunate problems with shipping last year. We wanted to let our customers know, that they have made big changes to their shipping procedures in order to correct these problems and we’re confident that these changes will make all of the difference for our customers and the chicks as they’re transporting them.

The earlier you order the better, especially with speciality birds as they will sell out.

You can view the full catalogue and place your order online (which will ship to our store) https://www.bergshatchery.com/
or you can call in and have one of our friendly staff members help you place your order.

Please note* all orders must be pre-paid in store or via credit card.

Get excited for spring and start planning your future flock 🐣🌱

PS keep your eyes on our page for more updates on chicks and give us a call if you have any questions at all.

🧂Why Salt & Mineral Licks Matter in Winter❄️
Providing salt and mineral blocks during the winter is just as important as in the warmer months. Here are a few reasons why:

1️⃣ Replenish Essential Minerals: Livestock need sodium and other trace minerals year-round for proper digestion, muscle function, and overall health. These can be hard to find in winter grazing conditions and dry feed sources when they’re not on pasture. Replacing these essential minerals through supplementation is key.

2️⃣ Encourage Water Intake: Salt naturally encourages animals to drink more water, and especially in these cold temps, they might not be choosing to drink enough, adding a lick supplement will encourage them to drink and help prevent dehydration.

3️⃣ Combat Nutritional Gaps: Winter feed and dry hay can sometimes lack essential minerals that they’d normally get on pasture. Mineral supplements fill the gaps.

🛠️ Easy to Use, Essential for Health:
Options like mineral blocks, loose salt, or specialized salt licks are available for different types of livestock and in convenient forms that will be easiest for you to feed.

📍 Stock Up Now!
We carry a variety of salt licks and mineral supplements designed for your livestock like the RiteMins Winter Premix. Stop by to ensure your herd stays happy and healthy all winter long!

🐴 Winter Feeding Tips for Your Senior Horse ❄️

With steady colder winter temps now that we’re in January you senior horses often need extra care to stay healthy and comfortable. Their nutritional needs can change with age, so it’s essential to provide the right feed to keep them in top shape during the cold months. 🌾

✅ Winter Care Tips for Senior Horses:

1️⃣ High-Quality Forage: Senior horses may struggle to chew coarse hay. Offer soft, leafy hay or hay cubes/pellets soaked in warm water for easier digestion.

2️⃣ Senior Feeds: Specialized senior horse feeds like our master feeds Senior Pellet or Golden Years cubes are designed to meet their nutritional needs, offering higher calories, protein, and fiber to maintain body condition.

3️⃣ Keep Them Warm: Proper nutrition helps maintain body heat. Make sure your senior horse has enough calories to combat the cold, especially if they don’t have a thick winter coat.

4️⃣ Add Supplements: Consider adding a joint supplement or extra vitamin E to support mobility and immune health.

5️⃣ Hydration is Key: Horses can drink less in winter, leading to dehydration. Provide warm water and consider adding a salt block to encourage drinking.

6️⃣ Regular Dental Checkups: Dental issues are common in older horses. A checkup can ensure they can properly chew their feed.

We carry a full range of senior horse feeds, forage replacements, and supplements, salt/mineral blocks and even heated water buckets to keep your golden oldies happy and healthy all winter long! 🐴

📍 Visit us today for expert advice and quality products tailored to your senior horse’s needs.

You asked for it, so we brought it in. Supreme quality pet foods cat combo from Nutrisource in the 40lb bag. We know what it’s like feeding all those barn kitties through the winter, the smaller bags just don’t seem to last long enough. We will be stocking these larger bags regularly now. 😺🐈‍⬛

Are there other products or sizes you’d like to see us carry?

Just ask! And we’ll try our best to get them in. We pride ourselves on supplying the Interlake region with all of the feeds and products you need for your animals and want to be able to save you the trouble of having to go to the city, and of course we love when you support our local business.

So if there are any items you’d ever like us to bring in, or larger/smaller sizes, don’t be afraid to ask us and our staff will do our best to bring it in. We can also do special orders from a lot of our suppliers and have products in for you within a week.

🍂 Prepare Your Barn for Winter – Keep Your Livestock Safe and Cozy! ❄️

As temperatures start to drop, it’s crucial to make sure your barns and sheds are winter-ready to keep your livestock safe and comfortable.

Here are some quick tips/reminders we think will help you get started:

🔨 Seal Drafts: Walk through your barn and check for drafts. Use weatherproofing materials to seal gaps and keep the cold out.

🛏️ Upgrade Bedding: Ensure your livestock have enough warm bedding, such as straw or wood shavings (we have swan shavings bags in stock) to stay comfortable and insulated.

💧 Keep Water Flowing: Frozen water sources can be a big issue. Invest in heated waterers or de-icing devices to keep water accessible. We have every kind of heated water bowl you could need as well as Ritchie automatic waterer parts available at the store.

💡 Maintain Proper Ventilation: Good airflow prevents respiratory issues while keeping warmth inside. Check that vents are working and properly adjusted.

🐀 Prevent Pests: Cold weather brings pests indoors. Use safe pest control methods to protect your feed and barn without harming your livestock. Make sure all of your feed is in pest proof, dry containers to prevent spoilage.

Looking for supplies or winter feeding advice? Stop by our store for all your winterization needs. We’re here to help you keep your animals healthy and your operations running smoothly through the colder months! 🐄🐑
