Our Wynonna (x ThomasHenry Original Draught -Sleeman) had two big girls on August 16th and only one made it. She is a good little gal with just a wee bit of spice to her. We will be running her on for a while, her CN name is Hana (which means One in Korean) and her RN will be Wyndance’s Hana Solo 😉.

Things have settled down around the Wyndance homestead now. Claire is back home with us (albeit in an urn) and that has given me whatever peace can be found in having lost a young & most beloved member of our pack.

Another LOC (Labrador Owners Club) Annual Specialty Show is on the books where the Raffles & Refreshments portion that we were in charge of went smoothly because of the Wyndance dog family of volunteers Barb Mitchell, Kenna Iddison (& Charlie) and Deb Beauchamp pitching in to help me to get set up, organized and running it (❤️).

And our Wyndance dog crew did themselves proud in honoring our Claire.

- her Dam, our Veteran gal GCh. Devonsleigh’s Black Charm at 8 yrs 8 mths placed 4th then 3rd finally decided that the judges weren’t such suspicious characters after her 3rd time in the ring and finally opted out of giving them the side eye in her typical Charm fashion and placed a respectable 2nd under Sunday’s judge Frank Gilroy.
- Claire & Colt’s offspring, GCh. Little Man Tate at 2.5 yrs old was 1 of only 3 males to make the final cut on Day 1 in the Specials ring and made the cut the 2nd day as well. And his sister Ch. Wyndance’s Spirit Break Out (Faith) also made the cut both days
- Kenna’s (Wynonna x Cabus daughter) , Ch. Wyndance’s Black Swan At Huntsview (Odi) made the cut as a Special at the Saturday Specialty at 22 months old and then hustled down to the All Breed Show ring, taking both a Best of Breed (in a 21 dog entry) and a Select Bitch win on Saturday & Sunday respectively.
- Deb Beauchamp’s young male entry at 14 mths, Wyndance Eastwind Spirit Of The West (Stetson) picked up two 3rd place results in the shows. Poor young lad got stung by something on his forehead just as the judge was about to examine him so showing him after that was super duper fun for Kenna and stressy for his Mom Deb. 😳😬🙄

And then there were 4. You, who breed and love with all your heart, the dogs that live in your home with you, that give you more belly laughs than you can count, that bring your puppies into this world, trusting you, staring into your eyes you as you sit and stroke them while they nurse or recover from a c-section. You all know this story.

You’ve all had your heart broken into bits when one crosses the rainbow bridge when they are 12 or 13 or 14 after a lovely life well lived but I think one’s heart might break into just one more piece when one goes unexpectedly.

She was just 6 and I loved her to pieces. My first keeper puppy from my Wyndance foundation female Charm and out of a stud dog that I adore-Cabus. She was a great, typey girl, a wonderful mama dog with the sweetest disposition. She never complained unless her dinner was late, she wasn’t a barker but she was a chocolate and as such was a handful in her early years but really smoothed out as she matured. Y’all know what I mean when I say that too. She was just a joyful girl-all the time.

I wish with all my heart I could have a do over when we left her to be spayed today. I ruffled her fur, told the vet tech to just say “Let’s go!” And she followed them in. Nice and easy. And even though she had open pyometra, I wasn’t too worried. We’d caught it right away.

But after the initial call saying all went well, they’d keep her overnight to make sure and we could pick her up tomorrow morning, came the dreaded second call a couple hours later saying ”she’s down but they’re working on her”. And then the final call…”We worked on her for 40 minutes but she didn’t make it Karen.”

So now the show must go on. She was supposed to be with us this weekend but I will bring and show or have shown her mother, her daughter and her son. And no matter the results or outcomes, they will pay tribute to
