Surprises can be the highlight of our day, and my recent surprise was a reminder of the incredible journey of life. A message from Dinah Menssa led me to Daniela Wettstein, the owner of El Zorro, a foal born from RSA Serendipity (Merlin's dam) and KR Armahni (was our black stallion we raised). As a breeder, it's a thrill to see your foals grow and thrive, and Zorro (now named Paco) has done just that. He's found a loving home with Daniela, where he's become an accomplished endurance racehorse. The bond between Daniela and Paco is genuinely inspiring and reminds us that with love and dedication, anything is possible.

One of the greatest ambassadors out breed has ever had, the great Khemosabi++++// (Amerigo x Jurneeka++ by Fadjur) in one of my favorite shots of him from the mid 70’s when he was standing at Pereira Arabians.

A US and Canadian National Champion in both Halter and Western Pleasure, under the tutelage of the great Tom Bason and Gene LaCroix, little needs to be added to his show career. Khemo was the real deal. He won over the crowds and made new fans and friends wherever he went. Bred, owned, loved and managed by the Husband family his entire life, he may have been owned by the Khemosabi syndicate, but there’s no doubt he lived his life as Ruth Husband’s boy. Dr. Bert and the Husband children, particularly Paul, all played an important part in this great stallions life and legacy as well.

Khemosabi++++// was the absolute best cross of Frisco Mari breeding via US Reserve National Champion Stallion Amerigo, on the great Fadjur daughter and multi Nationals winning Jurneeka++. A near perfect blending of CMK, Babson and Polish breeding he inherited the best qualities of his ancestors. The only thing more legendary then Khemo the show horse, as the perfect 3-circle halter horse and the standard bearer for Western Pleasure, were his foals. The “Khemosabi look” has bred on for generations in both performance and halter winners around the world and is still important in breeding programs today.

Any time I hear the William Tell Overture or see a lovely new foal on social media with the signature 4 socks and elegant, correct look to it I smile and think back to the glory days of our breed and the favorite son from that era. Long live Khemosabi++++//, through great memories and great heirs of this amazing horse.

Bred by Joanne Campone, breeder of Magic Dream. He went on to live with Kristina Rennich of Rennich Arabians and had an incredible show & breeding career with her. Later he went to Georgina Bowerman where he continued his show, riding & breeding career. We were blessed to to have Darien join our family after Georgina. Darien will be with us for the rest of his days. He has even sired 2 gorgeous sons in 2024!!

At the 1998 Region 17 Championship show, FOREVER MAGIC was named Reserve Champion Stallion AAOTH at only two years of age. As a sire, Darien consistently stamps his foals with type, movement and conformation, passing on his excellent neck and hip. Darien's foals also have his great working ethic and temperament. Their wins include WCB
Champion Yearling C**t, 2x WCB Top 4 and Class A Reserve Championships in halter as well as numerous wins in Halter and Performance.

Knowing he’s going to such a great home makes it so much easier letting him go. I hope you enjoy him as much as I did, he’s such a sweetheart!

Lady Josephine RN our Khemosabi/Bask granddaughter. She’s 25 this year, got injured when I was away in BC for a funeral. She’s getting pampered, loves hanging out in the barn when it’s warm out. She’s one of the sweetest horses I’ve ever had, love her so much. When I was sad a few days ago she lay her head across me & just stayed there comforting me 💕 I’d do anything I can to to help her!!

Mare Code of Honor:
The mare's secret code of honor is as old as horses themselves and is ultimately the species best kept secret. No mare shall ever produce a foal before it's time.(It's time being determined by the following factors):
1. No foal shall be born until total chaos has been reached by all involved. Your house must be a wreck, your family hungry and desperate for clean clothes, and your social life nonexistent.
2.Midwives must reach the babbling fool status before you foal out. Bloodshot eyes, tangled hair and the inability to form a sentence mean you're getting close.
3.For every bell, beeper, camera or whistle they attach to you, foaling must be delayed by at least one day for each item.
4.Vet check, add a day, internal add three. If you hear the words, "She's nowhere near ready. You'll be fine while I'm away for the weekend," Wait 12 to 16 hours and pop that baby out!
5.Owner stress must be at an all time high! If you are in the care of someone else, ten to fifteen phone calls a day is a sign you're getting close. When you hear the words "I can't take it anymore!" wait three days and produce a foal.
6.You must keep this waiting game interesting. False alarms are necessary! Little teasers such as looking at your stomach, pushing your food around in the bucket and then walking away from it are always good for a rise. Be creative and find new things to do to keep the adrenaline pumping in those who wait.
7.The honor of all horses is now in your hands. Use this time to avenge all of your stable mates. Think about your friend who had to wear that silly costume in front of those people. Hang onto that baby for another day. OH, they made him do tricks too! Three more days seems fair. Late feedings, the dreaded diet, bad haircuts, those awful wormings can also be avenged at this time.
8.If you have fulfilled all of the above and are still not sure when to have this foal, listen to the weather forecast on the radio that has been so generously provided by those who wait. Severe storm warning is what you're waiting for. In the heart of the storm jump into action! The power could go out and you could have the last laugh. You have a good chance of those who wait missing the whole thing while searching for a flashlight that works!
9.Make the most of your interrupted nights. Beg for food each time someone comes into the stable to check you. Your stable mates will love you as the extra goodies fall their way too.
10.Remember, this code of honor was designed to remind man of how truly special horses are. Do your best to reward those who wait with a beautiful filly to carry on the mare code of honor for the next generation of those who wait!

Huge congratulations to Bridgette Cunningham & Mystical Hill Ranch. Their mare Dar So Freakin Fancy who was bred to Darien last year had a gorgeous black c**t with just a star! He is a big beautiful c**t, I love him 😍 Merlin’s 1/2 brother.
