Yesterday was a really exciting day for Whinny the Mini because we had our first off property pull!!๐คฉ๐คฉ
I am so proud of this little guy and have really been enjoying having him in the training roster this month as a cool โbreakโ from all of the young riding horses.
He did an excellent job at his first time out and we could not be more proud of him! ๐ฅณ๐ฅณโค๏ธโค๏ธ
Next stop ??? If you see us driving to Kakabeka to get groceries just remember; gas is expensive ๐๐โฝ๏ธโฝ๏ธ
Itโs Flashback Friday and itโs time to jump around cause the weekend is almost here ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ๐ฅณ#horsebackriding #equestrian #equestrianlife
Opting for a professional horse trainer brings a wealth of benefits. Professionals have the experience, knowledge, and skills required to train horses effectively and safely. They understand horse behavior, training techniques, and can tailor training programs to suit each horse's needs. This expertise helps in achieving desired results efficiently and ensures the well-being of the horse during the training process. On the other hand, choosing someone inexperienced can lead to ineffective training, potential harm to the horse, and may not yield the desired outcomes. Investing in a professional trainer not only benefits the horse but also provides peace of mind to the owner knowing that their horse is in capable hands.
Training a horse to load into a horse trailer is a crucial skill. We start by desensitizing the horse to the trailer by allowing them to explore it freely(usually days if not weeks leading up to our expected travel date and definitely not the day off when things tend to be already stressful). Using positive reinforcement like treats to create a positive association with the trailer in a low stress situation is key. Practice leading the horse in and out of the trailer, rewarding each step towards progress. Take it slow, be patient, and always end on a positive note. Consistency and gentle encouragement are key to successfully training a horse to load into a trailer.
Happy training and remember; egos donโt belong in horse training๐ด

I have waited a long time to share this on here. This video compilation of ๐Dolly๐ is very close to my heart. I had ages to spend on the ground with her while I was pregnant and I am so happy with her progress and where she is at now. It was not an easy journey; it was a long road of hard work.
And itโs far from over. Developing any horse takes time. Years. Decades even- before they are solid citizens. But my goal with this filly is to make sure she is set up for success in the future. Teaching her how to use her body correctly is just a small part of setting her up for long term soundness and longevity.
This is just a part of our time together ๐ Enjoy.
Well I had a fantastic ride back in the saddle today; how about you guys? ๐ด๐ค

Trying to keep training fun and interesting for these youngsters and we learnt today someone really enjoys the big balls โฝ๏ธ
All part of the desensitizing plan ๐ถ๏ธnext stop the World Cup?
Yes weโve started a lot of young horses this year but this is the first time Iโve ever even attempted to train a horse how to drive. Itโs definitely new territory for me but I have a brand new appreciation for miniature horses now ๐๐
If anyone sees me headed into town in one of these just mind ya business, gas is expensive ๐๐คฃ
๐งธTheo๐งธ and I playing with some liberty work to break up his training and keep his brain fresh ๐ง
I love challenging these young horses in fun ways when I can. His mom has done an excellent job with his groundwork in preparation for under saddle work so his whole month of training has been a really easy and seamless transition into riding.
Great job ๐งธTheo๐งธ โค๏ธ
Aaaaaaand this is our last colt start of the year. No more Jayda I promise ๐ค๐
Everybody meet ๐ฆดBones๐ฆด!
He is a Morgan horse which is a breed Iโll admit I am not super familiar with but I am really enjoying. Everyone knows I like my nice quiet quarter horses ๐ but ๐ฆดBones๐ฆด is definitely an exception. He is super sweet and willing boy and has just completed his first ride under saddle despite the spooky weather.
Note to self: no colt starts in October next year ๐ซ๐ป๐
First ride on this little red horse; Theo โฅ๏ธ
This colt is bred for cows and ranch work. He is incredibly smart and exceptionally athletic.
Once he has a solid foundation heโll be able to tack some real life ๐ฎ I am really excited to see him work a cow. He has some really cool natural ability to stop and turn ๐คฉ
I will be the first to say I love colt starts. The first 30-90 days especially under saddle are so incredibly important to shaping these horses for the rest of their life.
From leading and lunging to their first saddle there are so many things that can go wrong. My only goal is to set these young horses up for success for the rest of their riding careers.
Iโve gotten a lot of young horses come for training that have some incredible potential but just need to be pushed in the right direction. Bowie here is no exception. This is a fantastic young little colt who came to get started under saddle. Jayda is riding him in this video and has done a great job working under my supervision while I started a few others at the same time. I love watching them all progress at their own speed and I also really enjoy watching how they all think and learn a little differently๐
That time we had three little dumplings ๐ฅ๐ด๐ด๐ด
Had the pleasure of working with one of our new farm ponies last month. I know I swore we would never board minis here because they are the ๐ but Bandit is an exception to the rule.
Turns out with some proper handling and direction they can actually be docile and civilized members of society; who knew ๐คทโโ๏ธ๐

2023 is the year of colt starts. I am super lucky to have an excellent apprentice this summer who under my supervision has officially started her first young horse and brought them through the entirety of their 30 days in training.
Jayda and Aztec have officially wrapped up their month and I am so proud of both of them. I donโt like taking 30 day colt starts because we all know that 30 days is not even close to enough time to consider a horse โgreenโ broke. However Aztec has an excellent start to his riding career with us and a solid foundation to continue with his future. We are so looking forward to what this little athletic guy gets up to โค๏ธ
This year is full of colt starts and ๐ชฉAztec๐ชฉ has proven to be an absolute super star โญ๏ธ
This is his third ride and first in the big arena today. We are working strictly on his gas pedal and brake and are asking him to move out around the arena. We are thrilled with his progress in such a short amount of time ๐๐คฉ
Today we said goodbye to our amazing Pony Camp girls ๐
We had an absolutely fabulous week full of fun but today took the cake ๐๐จ๐ด
Enjoy ๐ง๏ธRain๐ง๏ธ featuring the ๐๐
All of the training horses have had an excellent week but this big three year old with less than thirty days riding has really blown me away.
๐Millie๐ is a clientโs thoroughbred filly who has just started working lightly on some collection while moving out. She is learning how to use her body and be a good citizen at the same time. I am really proud of this young horse and where she is at. I normally hate sharing videos before they are โperfectโ but it would be a shame not to post some of her progress. Great job Millie๐๐โค๏ธโค๏ธ
My favourite big man is back and feeling fantastic ๐ฅฐ๐ฅฐ๐คฉ๐คฉ
๐ฒTimber๐ฒ gave me an excellent ride this morning ๐. My Facebook memories popped up and it was seven years ago today I started him under saddle. So lucky to have him and his mom as the most wonderful clients ever โค๏ธ
