Our goal is to provide education to assist owners in gaining the training skills they need to teach their dogs to be well-mannered family members. Our focus on using rewards to train behaviours builds a happy, healthy relationship between owners and their dogs. The Dog Classroom is Thunder Bay’s leading positive reinforcement training facility. With a bright, clean, 2000 square foot custom-built b

uilding and an attached fully-fenced training yard, we are able to offer a comfortable and safe learning environment for you and your dog. Located just 5 minutes from County Fair Mall, our location boasts a long, private driveway and acres of walking trails ideal for dogs who learn best away from the busy city streets. Our experienced and educated staff consists of two full-time Certified Professional Dog Trainers and Behaviour Consultants, two part-time trainers who completed their apprenticeships and are working toward their certification, and a Scent Instructor. Keeping a small but qualified staff ensures we can provide consistent and top-quality instruction throughout all of our classes. We have something for dogs of all ages including puppies as young as 8 weeks, senior dogs, and everyone in between. Will a full schedule of group classes, as well as private lessons, behaviour consultations, seminars, and Stay & Train services, we are able to work with you and your dog toward your specific training goals. Added benefits of being part of The Dog Classroom family include access to client-only content (Facebook groups, video tutorials, etc.), membership to our monthly Walking Club, and of course the comfort that you and your dog are being given the most up-to-date, evidence-based dog training education available from qualified professionals.

Congrats to all the teams who were courageous enough to step to the start line this long weekend! Special shoutout to Team Maple for entering their very first trial 🎉

We saw lots of great teamwork and clean runs this weekend, but I have to say my favourite was watching some of the FEO runs where they got to play and have fun! It takes a lot to give up your chance at a “Q” and run FEO for the benefit of your dog. Way to go everyone ⭐️

We are so lucky to have a group of supportive friends to trial with!

🌟Abruzzi, Benny, Birdie, and Ronnie all entered the local NADAC trial and each team had some amazing runs!

It takes a lot of training, time, patience, trust, and courage to step to the line in a competition and we want to let these teams know we are so proud to be part of their journey🥰

Our Story

Our goal is to provide education to assist owners in gaining the training skills they need to teach their dogs to be well-mannered family members. Our focus on using rewards to train behaviours builds a happy, healthy relationship between owners and their dogs. I, Anne-Marie Mayes, The Dog Classroom's owner and head trainer, am a Registered Veterinary Technician and a Certified Professional Dog Trainer with the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers as well as a Professional member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. I have been working in the industry since 1999. My professional experience includes: dog behaviour consultations, behaviour modification with aggressive dogs, fear desensitization training, private training, group classes, puppy socialization classes, education initiatives with local school boards (i.e., Be A Tree presentations), and volunteering at Animal Services to coordinate their community involvement training program with high school students. At The Dog Classroom we strive to deliver a consistent training program through all classes, levels and across all instructors. For this reason, the training staff is educated and trained by Anne-Marie through a lengthy mentorship program. Our facility allows us to work dogs both indoors and outdoors providing more opportunities for learning. We have something to offer people and dogs of all levels of skill and ability.
