We had another amazing week at Kidz Dayz Camp last week! The kids all had a blast learning about different dog sports and career opportunities. The canine volunteers were assigned to each kid either in groups or by them selves and they spent the week learning new tricks that they were able to demonstrate for their parents on Friday.

Our community is fabulous and hosts a variety of different people in canine careers. We would like to thank everyone who made our camp a success. Megane with Run A Mutt, Christine Ratte from The Northern Collar Club, Alyssa The Dog Gym, Dr Emilie Kelly Millson Veterinary Services, Monica Pinchou Kennel , Lily & Kat The Wizard of Paws Inc.

We have had a very exciting week here at The Dog Gym! Kids camp has been going on all week and the kids and canines have had a blast!

Everyone was assigned a dog at the beginning of the week to work with on trick training and they got to show off for their parents today at graduation.

We also had a variety of guest speakers from all different kinds of canine careers. The kids were able to learn about dog grooming, training, agility, canine mushing and being a veterinarian. We would like to thank all of our guests, Dr Kelly Millson Veterinary Services, Alyssa our Dog Gym trainer, Meganne Run A Mutt, Christine The Northern Collar Club, and Stephanie from The Wizard of Paws Inc.

Our awesome Dog Gym trainer Angele Gemme who did an amazing job running our camp this week with her volunteers!

Lastly a big shout out to our canines from camp; Nemo, Hercules, Duffy, Lightning, Duke, Winston, Oscar, Gracie, Juno and Hoss!

Meet some of our recent Builders Level 1 Graduates!

Are you interested in training with us? Our focus in training is to help you better understand how dogs learn and how to keep training fun and engaging. In classes we work on the basics of obedience and leash manners but also help you build a positive and exciting working relationship with your dog!

Stay safe out there everyone! Remember, your canine companions cannot sweat therefore will have a hard time cooling off in this humidity. Keep activity minimal and opt for cool activities like swimming or work on those skills indoors!

Wednesday students- we are monitoring the temperatures in the Gym and will notify you tomorrow afternoon if classes will continue to be cancelled. Keep an eye out for updates!

Kidz Days is back again this Summer!

We are very excited to be offering camp for 2 different weeks this year!

Has your child ever wanted to learn everything there is about dogs? What makes them tick, how to train them, and the best way to care for them? If so, look no further! If your child is between the ages of 8 and 14, this camp is made for them. They will learn everything they need to know about the different breeds, dog sports, anatomy, and how to train a variety of fun different tricks with much much more! 🐶

Your child will get assigned a dog at the beginning of the week. They will work alongside them to teaching tricks and will get to show them off at the end of the week. We will have daily guest presentations from breeders, dog trainers, animal medical professionals and many other experts in the field. The days will be filled with a variety of dog-related games, crafts, and educational interactive lessons, all coordinated by our trainer Angele. 🐕🐾

Our second half of Kidz Dayz camp was a hit last week! The kids were introduced to dogs with jobs. Megan from Run A Mutt was here with her sled dogs. The kids were able to fit their camp canines with harnesses and booties. They even were able to watch the sled dogs pull a small ATV in the parking lot. Theresa from Blue Collar K-9s did a demonstration on scent detection. The kids were really impressed with how quickly the dogs found the hidden items, not so much impressed with bed bugs!

The Dog Gym Trainer Alyssa, went over herding breeds, confirmation and performance showing of dogs. She brought out her senior Australian Shepherd Kai who is active in Rally obedience and showed off her agility skills. Anais and Driver from Tulikettu Finnish Spitz also brought in their Chihuahua for an agility demonstration.

On our last day the kids were able to show off their training skills with a demonstration for their parents at a graduation ceremony. We would like to thank all of the volunteers and guest speakers for helping us bring this camp to the kids this year. This will be our only camp this summer, but plan to be back next year for a 2024 summer camp!

Kidz Dayz camp is happening this week here at The Dog Gym! The kids are having so much fun learning about veterinary medicine, different types of dog breeds, trick training and even basic dog grooming.

Every junior handler is paired with a dog for the week that they get to work with and teach different tricks.

Breeders and guests from our local dog community are graciously volunteering their time to come in and help teach the kids about the 7 groups of purebred dogs and their jobs. They are also being introduced to different dog related careers. We would like to give special thanks to Stephanie from The Wizard of Paws Inc.Monica and her Chow Chows from Pinchou Kennel and Christine and her Dalmatian Kalon from The Northern Collar Club for coming out these first few days.

New Seminar Addition!

The Dog Gym is pleased to welcome Jenn Burgoyne of Courage K9 for an Introduction to Scent Work seminar. Sunday, July 16th 2023 at The Dog Gym.

Scent work is a great sport that is open to all breeds and ages of dogs! The dogs learn to enjoy the challenge of locating a scent and communicating with their handler that the scent has been located.

With over 25 years experience training dogs in both Law Enforcement, Security, Personal Protection, Scent Detection and Service Dog industries; Jenn brings a wealth of knowledge to her courses. Learn the basics of training methodology, Nose Biology, Body Language, Odor Handling and Prep, Setting up searches and Introducing Target odors during this 4 hour intro course. Intro to Scent work is great for all levels!
