🐾 Update: Reintroduction Journey: August to November 2024 🐾

We started the reintroduction process on August 10, 2024 and thanks to the dedication and commitment of these amazing pet parents, we created a safe and loving environment for both boys, Gus and Pablo. With patience, controlled interactions, and a lot of love, they worked tirelessly to ensure their cats felt comfortable every step of the way.

Fast forward to November 2024 (and still today), and these bonded boys are happily attached at the hip once again! 🐱❤️🐱 “It’s heartwarming to witness their friendship blossom as they play and cuddle together every day”

To all the pet parents out there: your dedication makes all the difference! Remember, every cat is unique, and reintroducing them can take time. With love and the right approach, beautiful outcomes are possible!

🐾 Getting ready for a vet visit with one of my boys! One of my cats experiences mild non-recognition aggression, which is when a cat reacts defensively to another cat they don’t recognize—often due to changes in scent or environment. This is a subtle sign to watch for, as the returning cat may get defensive if upset by any hissing, growling, or stalking from the cat that stayed home. To prepare, I’m desensitizing them to the barrier and partitioning off our loft to create a comfortable environment for everyone. With only a bathroom door to close, I’m ensuring that nobody has to stay in a small space. This is just the base setup, and I’ll be implementing further steps as needed for a smooth transition and a stress-free homecoming if necessary! 😸😸😸

As the holiday season rolls in, many of us dream of sun and sand, seeking that perfect getaway! 🏖️ But just like we wouldn’t want to spend time on a beach with dirty sand, our feline friends deserve a clean and pristine litter box year-round. Keeping their space fresh not only keeps them happy but also promotes their well-being. Let’s make cleanliness a priority for our kitties, no matter the season! 🐾

The holiday season is filled with gatherings and delicious food—a time many look forward to celebrating. However, for many cats, this festive period can be a source of fear, anxiety, and stress. 🙀

- An influx of guests in the home
- Alterations in home decor and furniture arrangements
- Fireworks and loud noises
- Travel or boarding situations
- Changes in daily schedules

Do’s and dont’s: 😸😾

Do: Create a cozy, secure space for the cat away from the holiday chaos. This could be a quiet room equipped with their litter box, food, water, scratching post, and some favorite toys. Familiarizing them with this area beforehand can help ease the transition.

Do: Ensure that the safe space is one the cat enjoys, not a place where they feel forced to go. It should feel like a sanctuary where they can retreat when overwhelmed.

Do: Allow the cat to have some time alone without interruptions from guests or children. It’s essential that they feel secure in their chosen spot.

Do: If you have multiple pets, ensure that they have their own safe spaces to minimize potential stress from interactions with each other during this busy time.

Don’t: Use the safe space as a form of punishment. It should be a positive area for the cat.

Do: Monitor how your cat reacts to the holiday excitement. If they prefer to keep their distance, respect their wishes and avoid pushing them into uncomfortable situations.

Do: Inform guests to avoid pursuing your cat if they choose to retreat. Encouraging guests to toss treats instead of offering them directly can also help make interactions more comfortable.

Do: Be cautious with holiday attire for your cat. Many felines dislike wearing clothing. Watch for signs of discomfort, such as stiff body language or avoidance, and remove any costumes if they seem stressed.

Do: Plan ahead for your cat’s comfort during gatherings. Create a space where they can feel safe and secure, and don’t force them into situations that may cause distress.🎄🎁🎊

Often check that that screen is safe and secure 🪟

Enrichment for indoor apartment kitties. Having their cat towers/vertical space in front of a window to take in a little bit of reality TV.

A special add, put some cat grass on the windowsill.

Note: if you live in an area close to the ground in a multi cat household, be diligent on any free roaming cats outdoors that might not be welcomed.

Today’s supervised visit was filled with mixed signals! 🐾 One cat is confidently exposing their belly, while the other is a bit hesitant and taking it all in. It’s all about patience and trust as we work on their reintroduction. Hoping for more moments of bravery and curiosity! 💖✨
