I love rereading the Harry Potter books, because every reread is a unique experience for me. I’ve been enjoying sharing my thoughts on the books through my stories this time around and discussing various parts of the plot with everyone ⚡️
One thing that has been gnawing at me on this reread is the fact that Harry names his son after Snape but none of his children are named after Arthur Weasley or Hagrid.
Snape was HORRIBLE to Harry. He was a bully and made Harry’s life miserable at Hogwarts. As I reread the books, I can’t help but focus on how awful Harry’s relationship with Snape is. None of their interactions are positive. Learning he was working for the good guys after all doesn’t negate all of the torment and misery Snape intentionally inflicts on Harry throughout their entire relationship.
Snape loved Lily but treats her son with contempt - if Harry had been a girl or looked more like Lily, would Snape have treated him with more decency? Either way, Snape is not a good person, even if he was working against Voldemort in the end.
Meanwhile, Arthur Weasley and Hagrid both cared deeply for Harry and were exceptionally decent & kind people. They were both father figures to Harry in a way Snape never even came close to being. Harry had a close relationship with both of them, and yet none of his children are named in honour of them.
Also, did Ginny not have any say in the names of their children?! Surely she would’ve wanted to name at least one kid after her dad, since they were naming their other kids after Harry’s parents and mentors.
What are your thoughts on how Harry decided to name his children?
