What is 5-Fluorouracil? It is a lotion/ointment that us used for skin cancer treatment as a topical.
Dogs can end up with toxicity from 5-Fluorouracil if they get into the tube of medicine itself or even from licking the skin where it has been applied.
64% of the dogs who end of with toxicity from 5-Fluorouracil either die or are euthanized as a result of seizures. It causes gastrointestinal issues as well as seizures that often cannot be managed or controlled. In cases where the seizures do stop the dogs often become severely ill shortly after as a result of bone marrow suppression.
