A HUGE, exciting, break through moment on Friday with Miss Piper! 🥳❤️
I’ve shared posts about Piper before but never went into great detail about all the obstacles she’s had to overcome these last couple months. Her amazing mom Kelly adopted her this January after she was rescued from the streets of Thailand.
She was found badly injured with most of her tail dangling because of horrific abuse by humans. Sadly they had to remove it, and that’s why she has a funny little tail now and a highly justified distrust and fear of humans. Thankfully this story has a happy ending though and because of this awful injury she found her way into a rescue and then to Canada with her wonderful, and super patient mom.
I have spent weeks coming to visit her daily just giving lots of treats, praise and using positive reinforcement to get her used to me coming in and out of the house, while also becoming more comfortable with my presence. We have come a long way but it has taken time, patience and a lot of bags of liver treats! haha.
Recently I started doing evening walks with her and her mom since Piper never felt comfortable enough to let me leash her or even attempt to go outside of the house without her mom. I had a feeling that the only way we could overcome this next big step was with the help of a super sweet, and mega submissive dog as she’s pretty nervous with dogs as well. We needed a dog that could show her it was okay and safe to go out on a walk with me and that she could actually enjoy it.
This is where her new BFF and my best boy Danny came into play. Danny is a human fearful rescue it took me weeks to break through with as well. He had been fired by past walkers before for being reactive and human aggressive but again with time and patience, he’s flourished and become such a good boy. Thankfully with other dogs he’s absolutely amazing so I had a great feeling these two would hit it off. Conveniently they live on the same street so it was a no
