We are so excited to announce our newest retailer in the Yukon!
adventures is located in Whitehorse, YT. It is a small boutique run by a wonderful owner, Brittany. She focuses on bringing whole foods, raw food and locally made products to the dog owners of Whitehorse. Her focus is to stock items that she would feed or use with her own dogs. I instantly knew we would be a good fit after chatting with her back and forth by email.

We were a bit behind schedule due to the extreme heat and had to delay the restock to this week. We apologize if anyone had to wait with empty treat jars 😝

This is the dog who started it all 😍

Without her, there wouldn’t be DoggoHearts and to be honest I’m not sure if there would be one if she wasn’t around.

At DoggoHearts, we aim to provide only the best and only sell the things we would feed to our dogs.

We can tell you that DoggoHearts is not our primary income source. We’re not in this business for the money but rather to benefit the dog community and to improve the standards for the quality of life of a dog.

We planned to do a restock this week. With the extreme temperatures, our machines have been slowing down causing delays. We have some exciting things planned but the restock will have to be pushed to the end of the month.

In the meantime, you can check out the “where to find us” section to support your local businesses that carry our products. You can also find us in person at the Summer Market at this Saturday!

New Pre-Order Deadline for Ruffland Kennels!

We have officially received our first pallet order of the Ruffland crates. We have successfully tried the pick-up system and have tried shipping the crates all the way to Quebec. I think it’s safe to say we’re happy to open up a new custom pre-order date for anyone who is interested in placing a Ruffland order.

Introducing the DoggoHearts pickup space 🥁

We know some of you have been waiting for this option to become available since we re-opened in Vancouver. We worked on the pickup space since winter. The progress was slow but we finally made it come to real life! Making time between restocks and fulfilling wholesale orders was not easy but we made it happen!

I envisioned creating a welcoming space where our customers can relax and try some exisiting and new treats at the Treat Bar. The Ruffland kennels came just in time for people to check the size in person.

To make this a safe space there are some rules we ask people to follow:

1. The visit is by appointment only. Tuesdays & Thursdays 12PM-6PM. If this timeslot doesn’t work for you, please DM us and we’ll find a different slot that works for us as well.
2. Each slot is for one group only. Please don’t arrive early to allow other group (or dog) to safely leave the space without conflict. This space is for all dogs.
3. Please remember to leash your dog. Leash rules apply the moment your dog leaves your vehicle.

It’s been some time since we released a new product at DoggoHearts!

Beef Kidney is my favourite secreting organ after spleen but for some reason it’s hard to find it raw or in any form of treat (dehydrated or freeze-dried) at a pet store. Maybe the benefits of kidney is kept a secret!

Kidney has the highest amount of Selenium after Brazil nuts. It also has the widest variety of water soluable B Vitamins including Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, B5, B6, B9 and B12. If your dog’s diet is low in pork, Beef Kidney is a great addition! It’s also great for supporting the kidneys if balanced correctly.

In March, we first introduced the Spring Mix to our Freeze-Dried line-up and gratefully it was loved by many of our customers!

With spring in full bloom all across the country, we are happy to bring it back for the May restock! 🌸

Crumble the pieces easily onto their bowl for a nutrient-packed boost. The green combination of bok-choy, asparagus and brussel sprouts add more fibre to the dog’s diet and increase the gut microbiome diversity.

Remember, always introduce new vegetables gradually and in moderation to prevent any digestive upset. You shouldn’t feed vegetables no larger than a size of your dog’s paw.

If you saw our story yesterday, you should already know that we’re officially a Ruffland Dealer!

As long time Ruffland users, we couldn’t be more than happy for the opportunity to stock the kennels at our 1,000 sqft facility.

March Restock with Greens 🌱

Spring is just around the corner and we wanted to create a veggie option just for this release. We carefully selected some vegetables that we commonly use at home for our dogs’ meals.

The Spring Mix will come with cooked asparagus, raw baby bok choy and raw brussels sprouts. You can feed them as is or you can easily crumble them onto your dog’s bowl for picky eaters. The Spring Mix will be good for people who are looking to add more fibre to the dog’s diet and to increase the diversity in the gut microbiome.

The Mushroom Mix will come with cooked shiitake and cooked portobello. This was created after being inspired from ‘s meals. This will be a good option if your dog is picky with slimy mushroom texture or if you’re looking for a shelf stable mushroom for creating broth.

The good thing about freeze-drying is that the product doesn’t shrink after processing. What you’ll find in the bag is pretty accurate to the size of the original form. This will be helpful for determining the right portion for your dog.

Introducing the Slabs 🥩

One day I was looking through a customer’s story (.the.eskie ) and found out that she was chopping our Beef Bites into even smaller pieces for her dog.

While we try our best to maintain the bite sized treats into a small piece, it may not be small enough for some owners. I can relate to this because I also have a small dog.

We can’t bring down the size of the bite sized treats as we cut them by hand. Instead, we decided that we can offer meat slabs that can be cut easily. The slabs are 2 steps before the bite sized treats are made. It keeps our labour to a minimal amount and we were able to offer it at a more economical price than the bite sized treats. Bonus point for the bags coming in larger bags, which would be equivalent to purchasing 2.5 small bags.

Sometimes we create products after being inspired from our customer’s feedback.

This is how we came up with the Bulk OXO, Trail Mix and now the Slabs (Pork and Beef).

Pork and Beef Slabs will be available with the restock on Thursday March 14 🗓️

February Restock 💝

Raspberry Turkey Balls were a huge hit over the holidays. They are back this February Restock with a Valentine’s twist!

Each bag will contain 3 hearts and 4 pops. I went easy on the raspberries this time because some dogs were not a fan of the raspberry-to-turkey ratio! The ball shaped treats are a bit smaller than the ones from December.

We brought back the FD Pork Heart and Dehydrated Pork Heart as well. They are thinly sliced and easy to break apart with minimal crumbs. FD Pork Heart might become a permanent item if people are loving it!

I may have forgotten to mention that the beef ear in the Beef Holiday Box was going to be hairy and surprised a few people over the holidays!

If you missed out on the Beef Holiday Box, this is your chance to try the hairy Beef Ear. They will be available next week during the February Restock.

The beef ears are cleaned and rinsed thoroughly before getting dehydrated. We recommend enjoying the beef ear with multiple chew sessions as it may be heavy for some dogs. It should be stored away in the freezer after your dog has gnawed on it.

I once used to think fur/feathers were a good source of manganese but this is not true.

Instead, feeding fur and feather can

1. Act as insoluble fibre
2. Clean the digestive tract
3. Add bulk to the stool 🍑
4. Provide mental stimulation

Expect to see bigger and hairier than normal stool!

We’ve been a bit MIA here and still recovering from the “holiday mode” even though it’s February.

We’re taking things slow and spending our days doing the things we love with our dogs. As a business owner, finding the right work life balance is hard.

This platform allows us to connect with our customers from all parts of Canada. A DM from our customers mentioning their dogs are enjoying our treats makes our day. Being on this platform pushes us to be creative but sometimes we lose the creative edge and feel burnt out.

Special Treats (aka The Clear-out)

As you all know this will be our last restock in Toronto before we pack away and prepare to move.

We have lots of different proteins that I purchased to experiment and prototype with. Not all the items I purchase end up on the store for many reasons.

The supply has to be consistent and has to meet our volume. The cost of the raw ingredients and processing have to make sense. There has to be sufficient demand from our customers for the specific item. Some items were on hold because they didn’t meet one or more of the criteria above.

I will be listing a selection of Special Treats for this restock to clear out our inventory.

All items are freeze-dried raw and cut into big pieces. They will be ideal if you’re looking to add more variety to your dog’s diet but not ideal to use as training treats.

Please remember that the quantity will be very limited.

Steps to creating the best quality treats for your dogs and cats

1. Secure the goods directly from a farmer that practices ethical farming. This involves visiting individual farms, maintaining a good relationship and securing the volume of meat required at the right time.
2. Slice, slice, slice and cut into little cubes big enough to make sure your dogs know they were rewarded for their good behaviours but small enough so that the you don’t have to break them in advance
3. Freeze-dry to lock in the nutrients and preserve the the taste with added texture 😋

I couldn’t resist not to photograph the recent batch of bison meat we secured from a farmer we’ve been working with.

We will have to push the restock date to early next week because we want everyone to try the Bison Bites for this restock 🥰

A step closer to the west coast - after lengthy discussions among ourselves, with our family and a number of our customers, we’ve officially decided to make the move out west a reality!

As mentioned in the previous post, this had been a serious consideration for us as a family and as a business. As a family we know that our lifestyle definitely suits the mountains and oceans of the west coast.

As a business, it’s become a time for us to expand and delve further into our passion. We deemed it appropriate that this is the perfect time and despite the risk this move may bring, we were made confident by the endless support from our customers.

We will soon be wrapping up our operations here in Toronto and do our best to settle out west for a smooth transition.

In the meantime, we will be doing our last restock in Toronto before we depart!

Restock date & details will be announced soon. We don’t know how soon we will be able to transition into the new space but we’ll keep you all posted! ❤️

We’re back after a long break with a well rested mind and body!

We’re currently catching up to orders placed at the end of February to March. We’ll be shipping all the orders out today and will also be doing local deliveries.

We would be lying if we told you we went to Vancouver for a month to just relax and enjoy our time off. Instead we took the opportunity to scope out some wholesalers in the west coast and to look at commercial properties 😉

We’re not sure if we would be moving to Vancouver but we’re keeping it as an option as our business continues to grow!

What are your thoughts about our potential move to the west? Would you like us to stay in Toronto or be more adventurous?

What are some supplements you like to add to support your dog’s joint health?

We like to include Green-Lipped Mussel powder in our dog’s diet because of its unique profile of essential fatty acids and minerals. It’s also concentrated with glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and chondroitin sulfate, which support connective tissues and joint structure of the animal’s body.

I like to rotate my dog’s joint supplements to provide variety and increase efficacy.
GLM is still my favourite out of all the joint supplement options out there because it is a whole food source.

Just keep in mind that GLMs are a shellfish and there are risks associated with over-feeding shellfish.

We have shipped all orders from the February restock and we are currently enjoying our time off in Vancouver!

Our online shop will be left opened but all orders placed after today will be shipped on Mar 25th.

We’re so thankful that we have the flexibility to take some time off from the business and take the break we need. Thank you everyone for sending your kind messages 💕

I’ll be doing more regular product highlights during the break and taking our treats around to different places.

Highlighting the OG freeze-dried goodies 🤤

Duck Heart was the first ever freeze-dried treats we started to offer 2 years ago. Counterclockwise starting from Duck Heart is the order of the treats that were released (Duck heart --> Duck Neck --> Mussel --> Sardine --> Quail Hatchling --> Anchovy)

We like to be creative with our treat options and continue to offer new protein and new cuts every month if possible. As some of you have noticed, some treats like Rabbit Bites, Duck Bites and Mackerel are no longer included in our restock. They may not be available all the time due to supply issues and due to inefficient processing methods.

You can be assured that the OG 6 treats will always be offered at our store because we are happy with the current processing methods and the supply is always consistent.

We’ve been a bit slow on social media this month. As mentioned in the post before, we will be taking anther break in March.

We’re currently facing lots of challenges mentally and physically. We need more time to recharge and we’re hoping to come back with a better state in April.

When we come back, we will be doing a rep search and we have plans to release new products that we can’t wait to share with all of you!
