Like many small businesses, the weeks leading up to Christmas were super busy for us—especially with all the love and support for our advent calendars and holiday boxes! We hope you all enjoyed the holiday season with your family and friends.

This year, we took a short social media break to recharge and spend quality time with our dogs—it was just what we needed ❤️

But don’t worry, we’ve been quietly preparing for 2025 and supporting our retail partners across Canada! Our freeze dryers have been hard at work (with some troubling repairs 👀) and we’re gearing up for our first restock of the year. Keep an eye out next week for the announcement.

🎉 That’s a wrap on the 2024 DoggoHearts Advent Calendar! 🎉

We hope people enjoyed a variety of new protein like Water Buffalo, Kangaroo, Venison and Bison.

If you liked any of the treats found in the Advent Calendar, most of them can be found at our store. If you liked the new protein, make sure to mention it to us so that we can plan for a permanent product in 2025.

We’re offering a selection of dehydrated treats packed into convenient Stocking Stuffers. If your dog has enjoyed any of the Advent Calendar treats so far, now’s your chance to get their favourites!

For training, we highly recommend the dehydrated beef lung and beef heart, as they come in small pieces. Other treats are larger and may require cutting beforehand if you plan to use them for training.

Looking for a last-minute holiday gift? We’ve got you covered!

Our Holiday Boxes are perfect for sampling some of our current treats, as well as exciting new ones. They’re also a great gift for your dog friends—especially if they’ve never tried a variety of Freeze-dried treats before.

We’re offering two types of Holiday Boxes:

Just as many of you have guessed and asked, the “Big” Advent Calendar will make a come-back to this year’s holiday season 🎄

We started this calendar version in 2023 to accommodate for families with multiple dogs, larger dogs or those that just want to have more treats to spoil their dogs!

With larger slots, there could be some interesting surprises 👀

As with the Original Calendar, the “Big” Advent Calendar is without veggies or chicken, 100% made-in-house, individually packaged and contains no repeats.

The “Big” Advent Calendar is only available for online purchase and cannot be found in your local retail store. They will be released for sale on November 5th with a guarantee for arrival before November 30th.

🎄2024 Doggo Hearts Advent Calendar

DH Advents are here for the 3rd year in a row!

Year after year it is always heartwarming to see the dog community come together and share the holiday spirit.

Like last year, we will be doing the 24-days of giveaways using the advents through our daily story event. Open a new surprise each day and follow along our daily story for your chance to win extra prizes.

Our calendars are unique in that all treats are single-ingredient, chickenless, dairy-free, vegetable-free, fruit-free and most importantly, made all in-house.

We made significant improvements to the calendars this year by making the calendars protein only and individually wrapping each treat. This will prevent shifting in between transit, maintain optimal freshness and prevent blotting on the paper calendar.

But best of all, the calendars will be priced the same as last year!

The advent calendar will contain proteins from:

If you want your dogs to look at you the way my dogs look at me, grab a bag of Duck Bites 🦆

If I had to pick one bite-sized treats from our store, it would be the Duck Bites. Overall very lean and easy to split into tinier pieces. Doesn’t leave much crumbs or grease on your fingers!

Can it be any better than this? 😍

I needed to dedicate a separate feed post just for the eyeballs 👀

As a longtime raw feeder, I’m always on the search for more oragans. Eyeballs are probably the freakiest thing I’ve fed my dogs 😂

It works as a mini chew for my little dog and I find it safer on the teeth compared to the harder chews. For larger dogs, they will nibble on it for a bit.

We built a good relationship with our beef farmer and they are willing to provide any cuts we ask for. Eyeballs are usually not available at most places because it is a lot of work to harvest (🙊) them. It took them 12 months to collect enough eyeballs for us to make it into a product since only a few are killed each month.

Next up on the beef project will be pancreas and maybe beef hide rolls (if we’re up to the challenge).

1️⃣ FD Trail Mix is back! This time it is a mix if Beef Heart and Pork Heart cut into perfect bite sized pieces. Hearts are more dense than our regular bite sized treats. Refill options are available for people who have purchased the Trail Mix in the past. Net Weight is 150g.

2️⃣ Freeze-dried Lamb Heart: Fats have been trimmed off and only lean part was used for this treat. They’re thinly sliced and packed into our small bags. Net Weight is 55g.

What’s inside Whistler’s Adventure Pack (AP) ⛺️

For the muscle meat portion, I chose 47% of the meal of be pork loin and ground turkey. 18% of the meal is made up of beef heart and duck gizzards.

I chose duck necks for 12% of the meal for bone.

I don’t like to include too much liver in the meal due to the risk of overfeeding copper. I chose 3% of the meal to be beef liver, 3.5% to be beef spleen and 3.5% to be beef kidney.

I wanted 12% of the meal to be made up of seafood (10% mackerel and 2% blue mussel for manganese).

I selected brussels sprout and cremini mushroom as my choice of vegetables making up for 1% of the meal.

This meal replacement is intended for a 45lb dog with an average activity level. Each bag contains a total calorie of 847 kCal with a fresh weight of 774g

This recipe was formulated based on the AAFCO requirements for adult dogs but does not exceed the minimum requirement for zinc, iodine and vitamin E. This meal replacement was checked using the ADF formulator.

Introducing Whistler’s Adventure Pack 🥁

With our dogs Utah & Whistler, we’ve driven across the country multiple times. We camped by the oceans in the east coast and in the mountains in the west coast.

Feeding a fresh diet has been our top priority when travelling but it’s been a huge challenge. We would end up with bloody bottom coolers or be anxious that our dogs’ food may have spoiled. Unlike us humans, there aren’t many freeze-dried options for the dogs. As dog parents, we found it very difficult to find freeze-dried food made from human grade ingredients. When found, we were let down by the levels of synthetic vitamins, minerals and unnecessary carbohydrates added to the food. 

Simply put, we wanted real food for our dogs while on our adventures together.

Whistler’s Adventure Pack is our solution to this problem. Whistler’s everyday raw bowl packed into a shelf stable bag.

We don’t simply strive to be a treat company, but we aim to solve the daily problems we face when it comes to the everyday diets of our dogs.

The Adventure Pack is not intended to be a permanent daily meal, but only a meal replacement for travelling or during emergencies. This meal was formulated for a 45lbs dog (850 kCal) based on the AAFCO requirements for adult dogs but doesn’t meet certain nutrient requirements. Further details will be discussed in our next upcoming post where we will talk more about the nutrient content of this pack.

Lately, our dogs have been loving dehydrated treats probably from the change in texture compared to the FD treats they always get.

Did you know that DoggoHearts started out as a dehydrated treats company back in 2020?

While I love the crunch factor of dehydrated treats, I made the choice to move away from selling dehydrated treats long time ago. Things like shelf life, rancidity, and nutritional values are all things to consider.

What makes our dehydrated treats different?

1. We make them a week before we sell them on the Restock Day. We only sell fresh treats and what we can make.

2. We make everything in-house. We don’t repackage dehydrated treats made from elsewhere.

3. We recommend our customers to finish the treats within a month of receiving the treats. If not, it’s recommended to be stored in the freezer.

We’ll be offering dehydrated duck hearts and duck gizzards (sliced) for the restock! It will be a good treat for dogs that prefer crunchy treats.

September Restock ⏪

Starting from this Restock, Wild-Caught Salmon will come in strips instead of bite-sized pieces. We gave them a try during our last restock and we received very positive feedback!

Why are we making this change?

1. We find it challenging to cut the Salmon into consistent cubes with our current equipment.

2. It will bring down the cost of the treat ($16.99 🔜 $15.99). The net weight will stay the same.

3. We received feedback that the treats were being used as a meal addition than being used as training treats.
