Interesting article!

Small Wonders volunteered to help run the disability section, right by the stage. We provided a Veterinarian, and on-site care/dog-sitting services for any guide or service dogs that came. We even ended up looking after a couple of police K9s! Throwing balls for police K9 malinois is... well... exhausting! 💕🐾

It was honestly one of the best days of my life!

The following morning, I received a letter via fax. . . The Rolling Stones were prepared to reorganize their tour, come to Toronto, and do something big.

It is with heartfelt sadness that we have to say goodbye to PSD Bingo who was killed in the line of duty last night while protecting the citizens of Toronto.

Our deepest condolences to Bingo's partner, Sgt. Brandon Smith and his family.

Bingo, you are a hero and your death, however tragic saved lives.

It's extremely hot today!
Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion/stroke!

Keep walks short. Stay on the grass, in the shade. Avoid blacktop roads. Stay off the sidewalk as much as possible!
Don't wet your dog's head, or you could inadvertently overheat their brain. Soak the chest and abdomen instead.

We've got cooling vests, doggo pools and travel water bottles/ bowls in stock!!!

Stay safe out there!!

I am currently visiting my Family in Comox BC.
Today, I acknowledge that I stand on the traditional unceded territory of K`omoks First Nation.

We acknowledge that Small Wonders Pets sits on the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples.
And that Toronto is home to many First Nations Peoples, including Inuit and Metis.
We also acknowledge that we are on Treaty 13 land.

Frankie has a bougie palate sometimes, according to his Hooman.

His sensitive tummy can't do treats made of beef or chicken. So no beef liver counter treats for Frankie.

Frenchie farts can indeed be house-clearing, environmental biohazards! 🤣🌪☢️🐾

So we tried duck. Nope. Ignored it.
We tried salmon. Nope. Spit it out.

Go figure... a non-descript pumpkin cookie was immediately engulfed in his jowly jowls!

We love you, Frankie!!

Great day with Don't Mess with the Don "Raptors in the Don Valley" event at the Redway Container!!
Thank you for the education about the raptors that we live among, as well as the community BBQ!!

Factoids:
-Red-Tailed Hawks can weigh around 6lbs.
Peregrine Falcons can weigh around 3lbs.
Great Horned Owls can weigh about 4lbs.

-All are capable of taking small cats, but they aren't a source of preferred prey because they fight back. There are plenty of rodents and birds around as a better, healthier and more natural meal. They don't take small dogs, except for Snowy Owls... they'll try.

-hawks, owls, falcons and eagles have a very poor sense of smell, but absolutely incredible eyesight! So they can eat roadkill without smelling it! Great Horned Owls hunt at night, and will prey on skunks!
Hawks, Falcons and Eagles only hunt during the daylight hours, and can see a mile away.
All of them have cones in their eyes that see infrared light. They can actually see trails of rodent urine, which lets them know where the rodents live!

-Hawks coast in the air on thermals. They grab prey in their foot talons. Falcons flap their wings like pigeons to stay high up in the sky. Peregrine Falcons dive once they see prey, and can achieve speeds up to 300km/hr when diving! They take birds out of the air by snapping their necks in their beaks, by hitting them with speed and continuing to pursue the now dead bird in a dive, as the bird falls. Owls' feathers don't make noise when they fly, so they are completely silent predators.

Super cool to learn so much today about birds we see all the time around the Don Valley!!

There's a new grooming salon in the neighbourhood!
Amethyst and her Team are accepting new grooming clients!

At Small Wonders Pets, we believe in supporting our local independent pet businesses... the more, the merrier!
We believe in supporting each other.

I dropped by to meet Amethyst in person. She's open for business on Monday June 5th!

Her Team grooms all dogs, but specializes in "difficult dogs" that other groomers are hesitant/refuse to groom.
Welcome Nimoosh!!

So we bought an acrylic case for our counter dog treats.
We put it together at home.
The cardboard box was obviously in our living room while we put the acrylic box together.
My husband started sneezing non-stop.
I was outside, doing other things.
When I came inside, I also started sneezing.
It was the cardboard box.
When your local shops receive master boxes, they are likely from overseas.
When they arrive in Canada, each container is sprayed with pesticides, and anti-mould spray, before being released.
I've been in retail since the 1990s.
Opening master cases of cardboard always makes you sneeze, or irritates your skin.
And we have zero knowledge of what chemicals are doing this.
Please acknowledge your small independent businesses. We go through an awful lot that you aren't aware of as customers.
