Dog boots 👢provide extra protection to prevent ❄️ winter-related injuries, such as cracking, frostbite, and exposure to toxic chemicals like de-icing salts. 🩵
🐾
Salt used on roads and sidewalks can cause chemical burns on paw pads and can be toxic if ingested (by licking).
🐾
BUT Don’t leave boots on indoors unless there is a medical reason to, as the only place that dogs sweat is ON their feet. Moisture buildup on feet from wearing waterproof boots too long can damage skin.
🐾
Skin in between toes (interdigital web) is very sensitive and prone to developing painful cysts, especially in short- haired dogs such as Mastiffs, Frenchies and Boxers. Dogs will lick at these cysts incessantly and a vicious cycle of interdigital dermatitis develops. Any sores on the feet or thickened areas in between toes should be checked out by your vet asap. Integrative vets have more tools in their dermatology toolbox! 💚
