5 Most Toxic Holiday Plants to Keep Away from Your Pets 🌲🎄

As the holiday season approaches, many of us decorate our homes with festive plants to brighten up the season. However, several common holiday plants can pose serious health risks to your pets. Here are five plants to be aware of:

❄️ Poinsettias
While poinsettias are not as deadly as some other holiday plants, they can still cause significant irritation. If your pet chews on or eats parts of this plant, it may experience vomiting, drooling.

❄️ Christmas Trees (Real and Artificial)
Whether you have a real or artificial Christmas tree, your pets may be tempted to chew on the branches or ornaments. Real trees, especially firs and pines, can cause stomach upset if ingested, and tree water may contain bacteria or chemicals that could be harmful.

❄️ Holly
Holly berries and leaves can be extremely toxic to pets. Ingestion can lead to vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, and lethargy.

❄️ Mistletoe
Both the berries and leaves of mistletoe contain toxic compounds that can be harmful to pets if ingested. Symptoms of mistletoe poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty breathing, and even seizures.

❄️ Amaryllis
Known for their striking flowers, amaryllis plants can be toxic to pets if ingested. The bulb, in particular, is highly toxic and can cause vomiting, diarrhea, drooling, and abdominal pain.

Tips for a Pet-Safe Holiday:
⛄️ Keep toxic plants out of reach or choose artificial versions.
⛄️ If you suspect your pet has ingested a toxic plant, contact your veterinarian immediately.
⛄️ Consider using pet-friendly decorations like faux plants or pet-safe flowers.

🐾 Meet Nova, the mischievous little Siamese kitten! 😸 This feisty furball recently had a messy good time that kept her distracted (and very entertained) during a nail trim session.

As you can see from the photos, Nova decided to take her Catit Creamy to the next level — and by that, we mean she ripped it apart and got it everywhere 😹! From her little paws to her adorable face, she was a happy mess by the time the trimming was done.

Who knew that a creamy treat could turn nail trimming into such an adventure? 😜

The holiday season is here, and as the year draws to a close, many of us are finalizing our holiday plans. We would like to take a moment to remind you to plan ahead for your pet's prescription foods and medications.

To ensure that your pet has everything they need before the new year, we encourage you to place your orders as soon as possible. This will include food, treats and prescription medications. 💊 🐶🐱

All special-order requests MUST be received no later than Thursday December 12th by 12pm. This will help us ensure timely refills and avoid any delays during the busy holiday season.

Community Food Drive: Let's Give Back! 🎄🍽

Starting Thursday, December 5th, we will begin collecting non-perishable food items for those in need within our community. 🌟 We’ve set up a large donation box at our reception area, and we encourage our clients to help us fill it to its fullest capacity!

With each donation you will be entered to win a festive CANINE or FELINE gift basket filled with goodies!

👋🏻 Hello! I’m Madison, and I joined the Dundas Euclid Animal Hospital team in July of 2024. From the moment I arrived, I’ve felt right at home in this supportive and caring environment. My passion for animals runs deep—I grew up surrounded by both cats and dogs, and they’ve always been a central part of my life. For over a decade, I worked as a dog trainer and managed a dog daycare, but after many years of dreaming, I made the transition into veterinary care about a year and a half ago.

At home, I share my life with my husband and our playful three-year-old French Bulldog, Levi, who loves visiting the clinic just as much as I enjoy coming to work. I’ve always been a creative soul; in my spare time, you’ll find me immersed in musical theatre, embroidering, or reading. I’ve been operatically trained since the age of three, and singing remains a true passion of mine.

In addition to my love for music and performing arts, I’m an avid classic cinema collector, particularly films from the 1920s to 1960s. There’s something magical about those old movies and the music from that era that takes me back to my childhood. And of course, my main passion in life is Halloween! I celebrate the spooky season 365 days a year. In fact, I have Jack’s house from The Nightmare Before Christmas tattooed on my left arm as a fun reminder that in my house, it’s ALWAYS Halloween.

I feel incredibly lucky to be part of a team that shares my commitment to providing excellent care for our furry friends, and I’m excited to see where this journey in the veterinary field takes me! ✨✨
