Did you know that diabetes is quite common in our furry friends? There are four main symptoms you can look out for: increased urination, increased thirst, weight loss and increased appetite.
Diabetes can affect 1 in 300 dogs, and 1 in 230 cats. But not to fear! Diabetes can be treated with medication, insulin and diet.
If you ever see any of these symptoms in your pet, it may be a red flag and warrant an appointment.

“No act of kindness, however small, is ever wasted.” - Aesop
Happy world kindness day! Remember to always look for kindness in the world. If you can’t find the kindness - be the kindness for someone else.

Remembrance Day, observed on November 11th, is a day of reflection and remembrance for those who have served and sacrificed in military conflicts. This significance of Remembrance Day extends beyond just human soldiers. Horses battled along side our front lines. Mules were used to carry thousands of shells and equipment to those fighting. Service dogs also played critical roles in military and peace keeping missions. They provided companionship, comfort, detected explosives and even saved lives. They embody the courage and loyalty alongside their human counterparts.

RVT Olympics: Part 3!
Blood Smears!
Blood smears are an integral part of haematological testing. Blood smears are useful for examining cell morphology and identifying blood-borne parasites.
We had our CSR rate our anonymous blood smears based on a rubric of the smears shape, it’s feathering and whether it has any spots or visual issues.
Five people participated in this: Dr Debbie, Paolo (RVT), Felicity (RVT), Katie (Tech) and Stephanie (VTA).
Can you guess who number 5 is?
5 - Gold - Katie
4 - Silver - Dr Debbie
3 - Bronze (tie) - Felicity
2 - Bronze (tie) - Paolo
1 - honorable mention - Stephanie

Unfortunately when it comes to the statistics of suicide, the numbers are grim for those in the veterinary field. It’s not surprising, given that our team members deal with life and death on a daily basis. We handle emergencies, schedule disruptions, struggle with financial pressures of those clients who may or may not be able to afford procedures and a million other roadblocks daily. This is why your kind words mean so much to us. After long days of caring for animals who can't thank us themselves, it means a lot when our clients go that extra mile.
Kind words can be enough to stop someone from having a bad day, a bad week, or even a bad lifetime.
Be kind whenever you can, it's free!

With compassion and commitment, our AAHA-accredited Cabbagetown Pet Clinic is dedicated to delivering comprehensive preventive health care services and the highest quality of veterinary medicine to the pets of our devoted, diverse and engaged clients.
The Cabbagetown Pet Clinic has been a fixture in the historic east Toronto Cabbagetown neighbourhood for 35 years. In August of 2008, Dr. Jennifer Day purchased the practice from Dr. Scott McClure and has steadily built the practice into what it is today – a modern, efficient and compassionate pet hospital, serving pet lovers in one of Toronto’s most unique neighbourhoods.
Since this acquisition, our expanding clinic has assembled an exceptionally talented and devoted team of veterinarians - Dr. Amanda Low, Dr. Brittany Lostracco, Dr. Jackie Elmhurst and of course, Dr. Jennifer Day.
The veterinarians are supported by a professional and compassionate group of Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVT) and Client Service Representatives. Their patience and attentiveness – combined with a healthy dose of kindness - help ensure that your visit is always a pleasant one for you and your pet.
As an American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) accredited member, our practice is extremely proud to reflect the high standards of excellence, business practice principles, and educational programs associated with this rigorous and prestigious certification. What this means for you and your pet is that resources and training for the Cabbagetown team are firmly in place to deliver the very best of veterinary medicine. It’s a statement that says we’ve “gone the extra mile” and are committed to being the best we can be.
We offer a wide range of pet care services from wellness and vaccination programs, dentistry, surgery, pain management and control to nutritional and behavioural consultations.
We would be delighted to answer any questions about our growing clinic and/or any of our veterinary services. Please feel free to call, email or even drop by and chat with any one of our dedicated Cabbagetown Pet Clinic team members.
We welcome feline and canine friends of all shapes, sizes, ages and breeds !
