This happy guy is Rookie. He was visiting for an ear recheck with Dr Larry. Rookie had a yeast infection in his ear. Many dogs are prone to ear infections because of the anatomy of the ear. A dog’s ear is the perfect environment for brewing such an infection. With summer coming, if your dog is a swimmer, you should take extra precautions. Talk to us about strategies to keep the ears clean and dry, including cleaners and medications that can help. 🐶❤️🐶

Join us as we recycle old cell phones (and other electronics!) this Ape-ril 🦍📱

Do you ever wonder what happens to your old electronics (also known as e-waste)? Every year, nearly 1.3 million cell phones end up in landfills. Over 50 million tonnes of e-waste is produced every year and only 15-20% of it is recycled properly. The remaining electronics are sent directly to the landfill! Electronics are valuable and potentially hazardous materials that need to be recycled properly ♻️

♻️ E-Waste Drop Off♻️
📅Saturday, April 26 & Sunday April 27
🕚10:00am to 3:30pm
📍Drop off your extra phone, tablets or computers at the Zoo's Drop Off Loop at the front entrance: https://www.torontozoo.com/events/EcoDrive .

We also provide 100% landfill-free recycling for cell phones year-round through the Zoo's Phone Apes program. Be sure to drop your old phones off on your next visit to the Zoo or mail them to:
📫361A Old Finch Ave
Toronto, ON
M1B 5K7

By recycling your old phones, elements used to create cell phones can be re-used which reduces the demand to mine in the Congo, the home to critically endangered lowland gorillas: torontozoo.com/tz/phoneapes 🦍

Did you know that dogs and cats are far more sensitive to THC—the active ingredient in ma*****na—than humans? At VERHWT, we want to raise awareness about the dangers of cannabis and other drug toxicities in pets.

Accidental ingestion can happen in many ways:
❗Eating edibles (commercial or homemade).
❗Directly ingesting ma*****na-related products like oils or inhalers.
❗Inhaling second-hand smoke.

Signs of toxicity can appear within minutes or even days after exposure and may include lethargy, overreaction to sounds, dilated pupils, a dazed expression, difficulty walking, or vomiting.

If you suspect your furry friend has ingested ma*****na or another drug, don’t wait—come to the VERHWT ER immediately.

Accidents can happen anywhere—at home, during walks, or even at social gatherings. Stay vigilant and keep harmful substances out of reach.

Our Story

There has been a veterinary hospital serving clients and patients in the Lawrence Park and neighbouring area for over fifty years. In 1992, Dr. Larry Wilder renovated the previous hospital and renamed it “Lawrence Park Animal Hospital”. Although there had been a hospital at this location, the declining health of the previous owner had resulted in a very small client base. Dr. Wilder’s practice was essentially a new practice start-up. In the ensuing years, the practice has steadily grown, providing veterinary services to the neighbourhood’s dogs and cats. The practice contributes significantly to the shelter community and specifically the Durham Region Humane Society, providing veterinary services for complex cases, along with veterinary services for dogs from the Caribbean. Giving back is a high priority for Dr. Wilder. With the growth of the hospital, the staff has grown from one part-time employee to its present complement of staff and their fur babies.
