One of the most common questions I get as a dog groomer is, “how do I cut my dogs nails at home?”
While there are many useful nail trimming videos out there, there’s a few crucial points that don’t get talked about. In my professional opinion, **nail trimming is not a one size fits all.**
Assuming your dog is already well behaved for nail trimming, the trickiest part about nail trims is how to tell how much to cut. Unless you’re already a nail trimming pro, it’s always safer to just trim 1-2mm from the tip.
If your dog is booked for grooming every 4-6 weeks, nail trimming isn’t required at home. However, if your goal is to consistently have short nails all year round, it’s best to trim the tips every week.
Additionally, you can ask your groomer to buff the nails after trimming to achieve a shorter, and polished look.
If you are not comfortable or lack confidence in trimming your dog’s nails, it’s best to leave this task to professional groomers. Nail trimming can be a sensitive and potentially painful process for dogs, so it is important to ensure that it is done correctly to prevent any unnecessary discomfort and trauma!
🦷✅ Time for a Dental Reality Check! 🦷✅It’s not just about bad breath 🤢 It’s about their quality of life!Take a look at your dog’s teeth. Do they resemble the ones here? We hope not, but if it’s this bad, you’ll need to call your vet ASAP. If not, it’s crucial to understand that neglecting dental care can lead to serious issues ⚠️As your dog groomer, I’ve observed a concerning trend: behavioral changes in dogs often correlate with oral pain. Sadly, oral issues, including discomfort and disease, are increasingly prevalent, even among younger dogs under five years old 🐶 This could be due to a lack of dental care at home, diet choices, medical condtions, and genetics among other things. Many older dogs suffer silently from severe dental pain, making simple tasks like touching their faces unbearable 😞 Imagine enduring daily agony without the ability to communicate it to your pet parent. Just because they’re eating, doesn’t mean they aren’t feeling any pain. By the time dental disease reaches such an advanced stage, professional intervention becomes inevitable 🏥 A proper dental cleaning with a veterinarian (NOT cosmetic) is essential to address issues beneath the gum line. In severe cases, extractions may be necessary, regardless of your dog’s age.Did you know that untreated gingivitis can lead to even more severe health problems? Gingivitis, if left unchecked, can allow harmful bacteria to enter the bloodstream, potentially causing infections in vital organs such as the heart, liver, and kidneys 🫀If your groomer recommends a dental check-up at the vet, act promptly. Early intervention can significantly improve your dog’s quality of life and potentially extend their lifespan. For puppy owners, instill good dental habits early on. Introduce them to teeth brushing to prevent future issues. Remember, it’s never too late to train your dog to tolerate dental care. Aim to brush their teeth at least once a day for optimal oral
Quinn is one stunning #cotondetulear 😍 He’s always turning heads wherever he goes.
We don’t know how his parent do it, but he’s almost always free of matting and so clean!
Long, fluffy coats such as Quinn’s requires high maintenance both at home, and in the salon 👆long coats such as his are recommended to come in for a bath every 1-4 weeks.
Owners must also be cautious of temperatures at home and outdoors, as they can easily overheat if not careful.

Spots are filling up quickly, I’m not even kidding 😳
I know we want to be taking a moment to smell the flowers and bask in the long awaited sunshine, however… THIS is your reminder to book your dog’s bath and trim 🐶
It’s flea and tick season. It’s beach and hiking season. It’s rolling in the mud season 🤪 If you’re planning for all the fun stuff with your dog this spring, now is the time to trim them short and maintainable.
Thanks to all your kind referrals, we are getting to see many new faces 😚 The only way to secure your ideal appointment time is by PRE-BOOKING 💜✌️ If you snooze, you lose. I won’t be squeezing anyone in… unless it’s a nail trim. Then maybe I will squeeze you in.
If you are looking to schedule an appointment in the next 4-6 weeks, I highly recommend scheduling a spot as soon as possible instead of waiting the day before or even week before. Only two Saturday spots left for the month of May, and we are quickly booking out to June.
Two Sundays are available each month but are reserved for severely anxious dogs, barking dogs, and those who desperately need a weekend appointment. Sunday appointments are NOT available online and can only be booked directly through me.
I am still accepting new clients 💜 If you are new, feel free to sign up through the link in bio 🔗 or email me at [email protected]
If you are an existing client or have filled out the online intake form, you can find the online booking link in the bio 🙏
