Lyme disease and ticks are on the rise in Canada. Make sure your pet is on tick prevention all year-round to protect them against ticks that carrier Lyme disease. In addition, you can also protect against Lyme disease with vaccination.
Other steps to take when protecting your pet from Lyme:
-Avoid cut grass, remove leaf litter and keep your dog away from high-risk areas
-Inspect your pet and your family for ticks
- Correctly remove ticks using a tick remover or fine pointed tweezers, and keep it for tick identification. If you are uncomfortable about removing ticks, contact your veterinarian

Letpospirosis, also known as lepto, is a zoonotic disease! This means that you can also catch it as well! Urban, suburban, and rural dogs can get lepto particularly in the Fall months. Both wildlife and domestics animals act as reservoirs of Leptospira and can shed bacteria in urine that contaminates the environment.
It is hard to stop our pets from drinking out of unknown contaminated puddles! But it is easier to vaccinate to prevent leptospirosis in our pets!

Let's start immunization awareness month by talking about rabies! Rabies is mandatory by law. It is a fatal disease and it preventable by vaccination. Last year there was 49 cases of Rabies (bat strain) in Ontario and 4 of them in Toronto.

Remember the kitten St Clair Veterinary rescued from the city garbage can??!! It has been 4 years since we found little Hope as a frail, hypothermic 4 week old kitten, drenched in freezing cold coffee. She was clinging to life, and we all swept in to warm her and stabilize her. For weeks she had to be bottle fed and cleaned every few hours and staff members rotated the nightly duties.
When she was strong and old enough, she was adopted by two amazing women. Four years later, she is doing great and is a wonderful loving cat. She fits right in with the family, and loves to cuddle with their baby son. We love you Hope! aka Dakia!
