I love the saying that when dog’s age and their nose starts to grey, that the fading of colour is from all the kisses we’ve given them over the years. 🥹But have you ever noticed that while most colours of dogs still result in fading, this doesn’t happen nearly as much in cats!🤔
Melanocytes are the cells in hair follicles that produce melanin, this is the pigment that gives our pets their colours. 🎨Cats actually retain enough of them to prevent the colour loss with age, whereas dogs don’t have as many, so they fade faster. The production also slows during age. It’s also been seen that pets that struggle with significant stress and phobias may also grey faster, just like how we say stress causes grey hairs! 🤯
Can you guess how old Toulouse the ragdoll in the photo is??? 🧐
