The deciduous (baby) teeth start erupting through the gums around three weeks of age
and are normally finished erupting by four months of age. By the time the average puppy reaches 6-7 months of age, all 42 adult teeth will have erupted.
If both a deciduous tooth and a permanent tooth grow in the same socket in the jaw, the crowding of the two teeth can:
- Increase the likelihood that food and debris will become trapped between the teeth.
- Lead to problems such as tartar deposits, tooth decay, gingivitis and periodontitis, all of which can lead to premature loss of teeth.
- It can become badly infected.

Everyone meet our clinic cat, Sofee. We took her in during April of this year, and she has been a phenomenal and valuable addition to our team. When she first came to us, Sofee had an enlarged colon, a condition called megacolon. Our team has put in a tremendous effort during the past couple of months to ensure she is treated appropriately and that her symptoms are kept at bay. Doses and doses of Cisapride, Restoralax, Lactulose, and a strict diet are some things we have had to keep on top of to ensure she is comfortable.
We have really spoiled her rotten during her short time here, and it makes our hearts full knowing she is living such a full life with us. She is our number-one go-to stress reliever when the days are long and hard. We love her dearly and can't imagine what our hospital would be like without her.
