Many behavioral issues dogs have today are the result of lack of exercise and stimulation. Most breeds of dogs were developed to do specific jobs such as hunting, herding, racing etc. Dogs who do not get daily physical and mental stimulation often develop behavioral issues such as unwanted digging, chewing, chasing cars, excessive barking, etc. We offer a way for you to ensure that your dog can be

the best that he can be by providing daily walks and pet visits. Let your dog get out there and have some fun in a safe, structured environment. Your dog will come home happy and content.

Duke
Nov. 2, 2014 – Aug. 1, 2024

Duke passed away peacefully last Thursday. Over the past year or so, he was gradually losing mobility in his hind end. It finally got to the point where he could no longer walk for more than 10 minutes at a time, and we could see that he was in pain from his Osteoarthritis. He was also having trouble sleeping, constantly needing to reposition himself during the night. The time came when we had to let him go.

Duke came to us from Danes in Distress when he was almost 5 years old. We were supposed to foster him until a new owner was found for him, but he quickly wormed his way into our hearts, so we adopted him. Like all our dogs, dog went everywhere with us. He was not a fan of car rides, but he loved to go camping with us and enjoyed visiting family and friends. He fit in well with my pet care business and often attended group walks. When not doing that, he was back home, watching over daycare clients and/or boarders. He was a real softy with doggy guests though, often inviting them to join him on the couch. He also loved to “steal” beds from visiting dogs. He had to try the bed of every dog that boarded with us no matter how small the other dog’s bed was. He made friends with quite a few dogs over the years. Duke will be greatly missed but we are very thankful for the time we had with him.
Thank you to Danes In Distress in Distress for letting us adopt Duke. Thank you to Joanne Wilcox for bringing Duke to us. Thank you to Victoria and Mark Lecker for stepping in and helping us with Duke when we needed it.

⚠️ Toxic Contaminants Hiding in Pet Foods ⚠️

According to the ultra-processed pet food industry, toxins inevitably make their way into dog, cat and other pet foods, and that “some level of contamination is unavoidable.” ❌ But there’s a way to reduce your pets’ exposure to these unwanted ingredients: feed nutritionally balanced homemade food or switch to a human grade pet food brand.

95% of brands use “feed grade” ingredients to make what your pet is eating; ingredients that have failed USDA (or any standard) inspection. Wanna know if your brand is among the rare 5% of pet foods made with human grade ingredients? Call or email your company and ask.

Want to learn more about how these “unavoidable” toxins found in top selling pet foods bring harm to pets? Check out today’s free article linked in the comments.

Imagine eating a laboratory-engineered food product that has been scientifically formulated to meet your basic nutrition requirements and it’s the only food you’re provided, from birth to death. Would you eat it? Of course (or you’d starve). Is this an optimal way to live and nourish yourself? No. Welcome to the lives of the vast majority of pets around the world.
If the only way you can keep your animal alive is to feed kibble (the equivalent to nutritionally complete cereal), do it. But if you can do better, DO IT❣️

Vet schools need to teach a variety of surgical sterilization techniques for dogs (cats have a different reproductive cycle and are not as negatively impacted by having no s*x hormones throughout life).

Everyone agrees that dogs should not have unwanted litters, which means having dogs sterilized is a critical part of population control.
However, research shows the sterilization technique matters, when it comes to long-term health outcomes.

Traditional spaying and neutering (aka des*xing) are the only techniques vets are currently taught, and removing ALL s*x hormones, especially when dogs are very young, comes with a host of potential irreversible, lifelong consequences. A growing body of research shows that early neutering can cause long-term health and behavior problems in dogs due to their inability to produce s*x hormones.

Sterilization without g***d removal (i.e., hysterectomies for females, vasectomies for males) are better alternatives, for the preservation of important hormones, but these techniques aren’t taught in vet schools (yet). Read today’s free pet health blog (link below) to learn more about des*xing research, and how to support the hormones of your spayed/neutered pet.

Kibble may be convenient, but feeding a lifetime of only highly processed food to your family, including your pets, can cost them their health.

When my yellow Lab died last spring, I was flattened by an overwhelming sadness that’s with me still. And that’s normal, experts say, because losing a pet is often one of the hardest yet least acknowledged traumas we’ll ever face.

This goodbye doesn’t mean that I don’t love you anymore. I’m thankful for all the love you’ve given me and I’m ready to pass on that love to someone else.

What type of dog water bowl do you use? 🐶💧

The dog water bowl has previously been identified as the third most contaminated🦠 item within the household and can be a breeding ground for dangerous germs & life-threatening bacteria🧫 that can put the entire house at risk, researchers at University Centre Hartpury have revealed.

So, which dish is best to use for a dog water bowl? The bowl that grows the least amount of life-threatening bacteria!

In the first study of its’ kind, Hartpury scientists found stainless steel grew the least amount of bacteria and over time, plastic bowls grew the highest amount, but the shocking part was the most harmful bacterial species (including salmonella, E. coli and MRSA) were most frequently identified in CERAMIC bowls!

Lead can also be a problem when using ceramic bowls, and the endocrine disrupting chemicals found in plastic bowls are a no-go! Also be aware plastic bowls🥣 can cause Plastic Dish Nasal Dermatitis🙀: Chemicals in plastic absorb through the skin and inhibit the synthesis of melanin, leaving the nose👃🏼 and adjacent areas with pink blotches.

So stainless steel🍴 bowls are the safest, right?

Well not so fast…. there’s even been recalls on stainless bowls😫. In our upcoming The Forever Dog book, in the chapter titled Environmental Impact and the section labelled “Toxic Toys, Chews, and Beds", we cover how to choose the best chemical-free bowls🚫 that won’t leach contaminants over time. No one tells you how quickly dogs age. How one day you wake up and suddenly their face is all white, how their eyes start to seem more milky than before, how you have to call their name a few more times than you used to.

People tell you not to blink when you have children, but what about the dog who was with you before your children were even thought of? The dog who was by your side before you found the love of your life, the dog who jumped from apartment to apartment in your early 20’s. No one tell’s you to cherish every moment you have with them…

Cherish the dog. The one who’s been there through every break up and every dumb fight with your best friend. That dog who slept in the bed with you when you were lonely and made you feel safe when you left home. Cherish him, because one day you’ll take him on a walk and he’ll start to get tired before you and you’ll realize just how many years he’s been walking by your side.
