Beggers can't be choosers...πŸ‘€πŸ¦€πŸ‘€.....πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

Sometimes you need to work with what you can get!

By the time conversations began diving into the details of this large reef aquarium build, there had not been any plans to have a support room associated with this Installation. So when I piously asked for a room for such things as making enough water for a 10 to 20 percent waterchange; I was happy they could find a nearby (albeit small) room that was able to be repurposed from whatever it was supposed to be originally....!!!

My original plan was to use a 250 gallon vat (which had a 36" diameter base. However, when I saw that the room I was given was only 72" x 48"...!!!! I was forced to get a little creative....
.. because I also wanted space for a fridge to keep food and other supplies, as well as some storage for a few boxes of salt.... The results became what you see here....

40" high steel stand to support two smaller (125 gallon) vats; and a sliding wooden platform which I like to call my wooden elevator.....lol.

What do you think...???

This is the waterchange station for the 1200 Gallon Reef....πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ½πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

Tight quarters I know; but can anyone ID all the moving parts....???

The room is way too small, but that's all I could get at the time... So I built upward, which is another story all together.

As for the RO/DI system:

1. Building coldwater line goes thru a pressure regulator to keep the flow at 70psi (however this is only during flow). When stopped, the pressure will get much higher... more in that later. Also, I could have opted for a 40 psi regulator, but since I wanted to run two RO units in series I thought the extra psi would be useful.

2. After passing thru the high pressure side of the Auto shut-off (A*O) solenoid, feed water goes thru the top RO/DI unit. The waste/reject water becomes the feed for the lower RO/DI unit, and the waste/reject water from here drives the brine side of a permeate pump (black unit at the bottom) before finally heading to drain.

3. The filtered water from each RO/DI unit passes thru a check valve (each) before joining together into a single line which is routed thru the permeate side of the permeate pump. From here the filtered water goes back up thru the low pressure side of the A*O solenoid, before heading to its final destination (vats or aquarium sump).

What and why the permeate pump....?

Sometimes the water pressure is so high (and imbalanced) that the Auto Shut-off (A*O) never actually shuts the system down, but instead vibrates and rattles continuously when there is no demand for water. The permeate pump uses the waste water pressure to push the filtered water just enough to achieve the balance needed for the A*O to successfully shut the system down.

What do you think..???

Here is the connection between the closed-loop and primary-drain lines.

The closed-loop is fed from the lower 10" of a 48" tall display tank. So I can essentially remove up to 80% of the display tank volume in minutes by turning a few valves. Unless there is some kind of emergency; I will be doing 10% waterchanges every three to four weeks..... I have two 120 Gallon vats (good for a 20% waterchange) located in a nearby utility room which will be connected by a run of 1.5" PVC.... So waterchanges should be quite quick and easy.....

Whatdoyouthink...πŸ‘€πŸ¦€πŸ‘€...?

Check out those Primary Drain lines.....πŸ‘€πŸ¦€πŸ‘€

You will notice that the one on the right side has a connection to a floor drain.... This will be part of the 2 minute 10%/20% water-removal system for expedient waterchanges.... Whatdoyouthink....???
