The exciting (and slightly nerve-wracking) part of the publishing process—going through my editor’s notes! Reviewing edits is where my book truly starts to take shape, refining my words to make sure they’re clear, engaging, and impactful. It’s a mix of “Wow, that’s a great point!” and “Oops, how did I miss that?”

Writing about canine behavior and nutrition has been a passion project, and I can’t wait to share it with you all. Now, back to fine-tuning and polishing—because every great book needs a solid foundation.

🐾 Monthly Training Challenge: Balance & Catch! 🎉
This month, we’re working on a fun skill that improves your dog’s focus, impulse control, and coordination—Balance & Catch! 🦴✨
How to Teach It:
1️⃣ Position your dog in a sit or down—whichever is easier for them.
2️⃣ Gently hold their muzzle parallel to the floor and place a treat on the bridge of their nose.
3️⃣ Hold for a one-two count, then release and say “Catch!”
4️⃣ If your pup sends the treat flying and zooms after it, slow them down by using a calm, quiet “catch.”
5️⃣ If they let the treat fall, pretend to race them to it—this makes catching more rewarding!
6️⃣ As they improve, let them balance the treat without assistance and increase the hold time before release.
🐶💡 This is a great way to build patience and self-control while having fun! Give it a try and tag us in your training progress.

Why I Love Being an APDT Member
One of my favorite parts of being a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) is their book club! The discussions we have are always insightful, pushing me to think deeper about canine behavior, training techniques, and the ever-evolving world of dog science. It’s amazing to connect with fellow trainers and share perspectives on some of the best literature in our field.
Beyond that, APDT offers incredible resources for both trainers and dog owners, making it an invaluable community to be part of. If you’re passionate about learning and growing in the world of dog training, I highly recommend checking them out!

🐾 Training Challenge Check-In: Let’s Talk ‘Play Dead’ 🐾
How’s everyone doing with teaching their pup to play dead? Whether your dog is nailing the drama or you’re running into a roadblock, we’re here to help!
Common Issues and Fixes:
❌ Dog doesn’t roll over completely.
✅ Try luring them more slowly with the treat toward their shoulder and tilting their head gently toward the side.
❌ Dog gets up too quickly.
✅ Reinforce the “dead” position by rewarding them multiple times while they’re still lying down. Gradually add duration before rewarding.
❌ Dog doesn’t respond to the cue.
✅ Make sure to pair your verbal cue with the action consistently. If you’ve been using a treat, phase it out slowly.
