Another Taylor Talk in the woods! This one likely needs a little more of an explanation but here’s the point… For us, loving our dogs unconditionally is more than just love without limitations. It’s about consistently showing up and providing clarity to the relationship. It’s acknowledging the fact that it won’t always be easy and it’s not always sunshine and rainbows. It’s not avoiding the hard stuff because it’s sometimes stressful or uncomfortable. It’s being willing to follow through when the time comes. Here’s an example… Our dog Roman, LOVES to chase small animals. He may or may not have his own idea of “follow through” when it comes to actually catching them but that’s neither here nor there lol. Preying on small animals is something that can be so rewarding for a dog that you’d be hard pressed to find anything else that could make him feel that good. These small animals could be squirrels, rabbits, racoons and you guessed it… spiky beavers (porcupines.) Despite having experienced their wraith on occasion, the painful inconvenience of quills to the face is not enough to convince him that it’s not worth it because again, it feels so intrinsically rewarding for him to do this. So what should we do? Well we can’t offer him high value treats and toys in hopes that would suffice as a replacement. We’re not gonna bother trying to distract him. We can’t verbally communicate to him how we feel, despite Ashley’s best efforts. We have to create a rule, put conditions and boundaries in place so that he can still enjoy his off leash freedom which is such an important part of his life. When it comes to dealing with unwanted behaviours with our dogs, we will ALWAYS choose quality of life over quality of a moment. This is what loving unconditionally looks like for us… #dogtrainer #dogtraining #dogsofnovascotia #balancedtraining #dogtrainingtips #happydogs #novascotiadogs #familybusiness
One day Ashley was going through old videos on her phone, and found a clip of us working through some reactivity with Wilson at Victoria Park. Who did we catch in the clip but Robbie?! A soon to be Kinfolk Dog! Small world here! What a perfect opportunity for a cinematic story line 😂 Thank you sweet Wilson for being such a sport about all of our teasing 😝 So proud of both of these guys and their mom’s 🥰 #dogtrainer #dogtraining #balancedtraining #reactivenomore #familybusiness #bordercollie #bostonterrier #dogsofnovascotia
Taylor is in the woods talking about dogs again! No need to feel shame about this one, you’re not alone! Sometimes things really do feel like a big deal- but don’t let your dog know that! The more we can stay cool, calm and collected the more they will too 😊

Some folks might be too nervous to be as bold as Ashley here… so let’s normalize staying out of strangers personal space! Dogs and humans 😇 #dogtrainer #dogtraining #dogsofnovascotia #dogsofinstagram #balancedtraining #dogtrainingtips #commonsense

Where do we even begin…
I guess we will start with how proud we are of Watson and Millie’s parents. Oh my gosh they are rockstars!
They came to us with a very bitey and wound up Watson. Even being pretty medicated he sure didn’t like Taylor… as you can see.
After some consistent work he now gets to enjoy his life out of the fog without the medication and is even learning to be trusted off leash with his sister!
We are beyond proud of how far Watson has come, and it’s a testament to the dedication of his amazing family. We are excited to keep building his and his family’s confidence- Way to go, Watson and family!

🌲 🐕 Have you ever played Hide N Seek with your dog?
This game is a great way to strengthen your bond, reinforce recall, and give your pups some mental stimulation. If your dog is trained and ready for a challenge, try it out! If you want to be able to trust your dog to not start squirrel hunting before looking for you… give us a call 🤪
Who do you think did better here? Roman, Bo or Ashley? Clearly not Ashley… going to need to get more creative next time with the hiding places 🤔

Hank coming in to do his job of brightening our day! ☀️
We talk a lot about building resilient dogs with healthy boundaries. This may seem like an extreme example with too much math... The point to take here is that fostering relationships with dogs as individuals helps to prevent codependency and competition in the family.
How many dynamics are there to consider in your family? For our fellow multi dog homes, When was the last time you took only ONE of your dogs out for some quality time 😮?
