Starting the week off with another happy TAIL! Our friend, Sam went to his new home just before Christmas & has since settled in beautifully! A HUGE thank you is in order to every single one of you that shared Sam's story. Together we were able to find a loving home for a very deserving senior.

Here's a happy TAIL! This gorgeous girl is Fiona. Fiona’s family sadly reported her missing in October 2023. Fiona’s family never gave up on her – they posted to social media pages & community forums regularly – checking every day to see if there was any sign of their sweet girl. 13 months later, an oddly familiar-looking big, brown tabby came through our office as stray under CatSpan Ferals Registered Charity. We scanned this shy girl for a microchip and to our surprise & delight we found that she had one! The microchip in place identified the mystery cat as our long-lost Fiona! We couldn’t be more excited to share this happy news with Fiona’s loving family. Fortunately, Fiona’s family had kept their contact information up to date and within a few short hours they were reunited with their special girl!

Fiona’s story goes to emphasize the necessity of permanent identification and the importance of keeping contact information current.

PAWSITIVE UPDATE: Sam has been adopted!!! Photos & Happy Tail story to come! Thank you everyone for sharing this post!

All he wants for Christmas is a forever home! We are sad to report that there have been no applications for Sam’s adoption since we posted his story last month. Every senior kitty deserves a happy retirement, curled up on a warm bed in a loving home.

Sam is a very special boy with a penchant for cuddling. We want nothing more than for Sam to be home for Christmas. Placement in a temporary foster home would be a welcome second-best. For more information about Sam or to arrange a visit please ring our office.

Christmas Stray cat update… A resident in FannyBay has managed to trap all the strays around her place, and through the course of last week we vaccinated, tested, dewormed spayed and neutered all of them. Part of our HARDSHIP FUND went to cover the hard costs of those procedures.. CHRISTMAS THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE SUPPORTED the fund! One of the cats has been adopted by a staff member. Two are going to a barn home in Courtenay, and one is going to the barn cat program in Nanoose. One of them unfortunately had to be euthanized due to ill health.

***ATTENTION OUTDOOR CAT OWNERS*** Today is a very sad day for our cat community. Another domestic cat has tested positive for FIV in Qualicum Beach (Shady Rest area). This is the FOURTH FIV positive cat in our community in the last five months. If your cat has outdoor access we strongly recommend routine annual testing. Please contact our office for more information.

UPDATE: through the power of social media, the black cat has been reunited with his family for home burial. Thank you to everyone that’s taken the time to share these stories. It’s such a terrible tragedy when a kitty is taken too soon. Together we can help families find closure in their loss.

Sadly, two more kitties have been found, deceased in Bowser & Qualicum Bay. Neither cat was tattooed or microchipped so locating the families to share this terrible news will not be easy. PLEASE choose a form of permanent identification for your kitty AND keep all contact information up to date — this is especially important if your cat goes outside.

11/05/2024 — large, shorthaired, intact male brown tabby found in Bowser near Nile Creek Bridge.
11/08/2024 — medium-sized, shorthaired, black cat, gender undetermined found in Qualicum Bay just south of Cone Zone.

If either description above matches a cat you know or love please contact our office for more information.

Do you remember Sam? Formerly known as Sly Steve, Sam was surrendered to Lighthouse Veterinary some years back where he remained a beloved resident until his adoption in 2022. Unfortunately, Sam’s loving adoptive mother is no longer well enough to care for him. We are now looking to find Sam a new forever home.

This friendly, outgoing guy is 15 years young, neutered & vet checked. Sam is very communicative & engaging — using his soft meow to greet you or gather your attention. Sam’s favourite activities include napping, cuddling & bird watching. His recent blood work reveals that he has developed kidney disease but with good care & a supportive diet Sam may still have years to spend as someone’s loving companion. Sam is not fond of dogs & would be best suited as the only pet in the home. Please ring our office for more information or to arrange a visit.

**Please share so we can help bring some closure to this kitty’s family** A female, grey/brown tabby has been found deceased in Nanoose. Using her ID tattoo (WB338A) we were able to determine that her name is Sweetie, approximately 11 years old & originally came through our office in 2013 under Qualicum Cat Rescue. The tattoo is registered to a LEAH C — however, the contact information for this client is not up to date. Do you know a Leah C? Please help us find Sweetie’s family! They deserve to know that their special girl isn’t coming home.
