No pups are planned, but I'm happy to help with anything else shiba related. Yes, our name changed 😁

Shiba’s advice ✨
Beautiful day.
Looking for shiba homes: fosters and adopters.

Hello everyone my name is Sessie. I am a red female coming up 10 weeks. Right now I currently live with my foster mom and dad and enjoy the company of my 2 foster Shibalings (Middy and Mouse)....
BEHAVIOUR REDEFINED
Behaviour is neither good or bad, behaviour is communication and an expression of emotion.
When we think of bad behaviour, our natural human response is to fix it, stop it from happening or suppress it as quickly as we can, so it doesn’t happen again, especially when it comes to dogs.
When we redefine behaviour and look at it as a form of communication, as an emotional response or expression, it helps to change the way we think about and react to it.
Think about a child that is acting out at school. Maybe throwing tantrums, bullying other children, cheating, fighting or displaying some other type of “bad” behaviour.
A teacher or parent wouldn’t just label that child as “bad” or just a child that is badly behaved. The reason for the behaviour would be looked into so it could be understood and addressed.
Bad behaviour is very often a cry for help that should never be ignored.
If we do this for children, why do we not do it for dogs?
Dogs are also sentient beings with a range of feelings and emotions and their behaviour is a form of communication.
“Bad” behaviour can provide us with important information as to what we need to address.
Looking at “bad behaviour” from a different perspective, helps us to acknowledge that a dog is struggling and provides an opportunity to investigate and address the root of the behaviour.
If you have space in your home and heart, please check out Okanagan Shibas. Foster and forever families needed.
Watching squirrels at the park today.
Sweet elderly lady: "Oooh, they want to play with the squirrels! How cute."
Me: "Ummmm, sort of?"
Nope. They want to murder them, but not everyone needs to know.
🤔😬😂
It's so important to know at least basic dog first aid. Brando, who normally chews his food, decided to swallow a chew today. Had I not known how to assist, it would have been way more stressful for both of us. His airway wasn't blocked but he was in distress. So it would have meant an emergency vet visit and more damage to his esophagus. I've booked him for a check up but he is perfectly comfortable. First aid. Do it.
Most dogs will chew just about anything. But what should you do if something gets lodged in your dog's throat? Here, our Memphis emergency veterinarians share what to do if your dog is choking
Not my boys. They will just stare at me with a nope face.
Shibas love the snow and the cold, but also sun and heat. Funny critters.
Guilty as charged. Lol
In an abundance of caution, I went out and stocked up on the types of dehydrated meat my boys will actually eat (Boo can't have kibble at all anymore). I just wouldn't want to be trying to maintain their raw diet if we end up being evacuated.
But, I also scored a pretty cute little p**p bag. Brando thinks it looks a bit suspicious, but I love it. If you need one, they are at Homes Alive Pets. https://www.homesalive.ca/homes-alive-pets-fabric-p**p-bag-dispenser-butts-butts-butts.html
Too cute!
According to the BC SPCA, red foxes can be found throughout the province, except along coastal areas.
Outtakes: Boo and I are practicing making cooperative care videos. Apparently I shouldn't stop to talk. Lol
DON’T FORCE ME TO BE SOCIAL!
Do we like everyone we meet? Do we all enjoy socialising and spending time with lots of different people? I certainly don’t and refer to myself as a “caninetrovert” – a person that much prefers to spend time with dogs rather than people. Maybe I’m a little different to the “norm”, but be that as it may, we are all individuals with different personality styles and social preferences.
Some of us are extroverts, gaining energy from interacting with people; some of us introverts, who find people draining and need alone time to recharge our social batteries and some of us are somewhere in between.
If we acknowledge that we are all different in this way, we also need to acknowledge and accept that our dogs are similar.
They could be overly affectionate or fiercely independent, approachable or nervous, energetic or laid back, confident or cautious, sociable, tolerant, selective or reactive.
We may be really disappointed when our dogs turn out not to be the socialite we expected them to be.
Some may even see this as a behaviour problem that needs to be “fixed”. Sometimes it can be improved, especially if the cause is from a negative experience, but genetics, breed tendencies, individual personalities, health and age all contribute to tolerance levels and sociability.
Accept your dog for who they are, allow them to choose whether they want to be sociable or not, respect their choices and never force an interaction that your dog is not comfortable with.
Shibas everywhere: I love you, but I also want something. 🤣
This doesn't need to be complex (like Brando and his buttons). It can be as simple as letting your pup choose the direction on a walk (I ask "which way?" at a junction if they get to choose and "left" or "right" if I've chosen for us) or giving a choice of chewy. Even the opportunity to make small decisions feels good.

Talk to us about Joining NICE!
I listen to a lot of non-fiction. One of them suggested that I should assess what I post on social media. Apparently mine in a tiny bit dog skewed. Sorry, not sorry. 😂
Nom nom nom
Nice and cool out at six am. So we walked a spot that is too hot otherwise.
Double standards🤣🤣

Shibas can be very loud. Especially when play fighting with their brothers. #shibainu #noisydog #dailydog #shinrininu
Mika is a very sweet six year old girl. She is spayed and up-to-date with vaccines. She knows sit, down, heel and stay. She walks well on leash and is also crate trained. She barks at appropriate times (ie stranger at the door) but not excessively. She was rescued by a very loving family but it isn’t a good fit. Here are the issues: She is very anxious. She needs a calm and relatively quiet environment, especially one where she can sit near you or on you. A shiba who will snuggle! She is good with children but not with the noise they make. Yelling, even joyful shouting, causes her to shake like a leaf. She needs to be an only dog or with a dog that will be gentle. She was repeatedly beaten up by another shiba at her previous home, so she should go to someone with no pets or with one very calm and accepting dog. She will also need a family that is sensitive to her potty needs. She was trained on pee pads and, as she is now six, may always have accidents in the house. She has had many positive accident free stretches, but any anxiety causes her to revert. Positive reinforcement and time will help these slips become less frequent but they may never go away altogether. She needs someone with a yard who will also take her for walks. She loves a good sniff around the block. She also enjoys spending time in the yard. Mika is not my girl. I am just helping find her a new home.
Boo loves when THE CLAW attacks. Don't worry... no shibes or people fingers were injured in this attack. #shibainu #shinrininu #theclaw
Dog parks can be fun if used responsibly. People should only bring healthy, well-adjusted, friendly, well trained dogs to the park. Sadly, many owners either don't care or aren't educated enough to be sensible. Therefore, I recommend finding other alternatives to keep your dog healthy and active. Although I take Boo to watch dogs play, I'm very careful to park away from others, to sit in a calm protected area and to leave if the tone of the park becomes anything less than sunny. Be safe!
Boo still isn't feeling good, but he's definitely up for doing his favourite thing - sunbathing. Good day for it too.
Brando. Sleeping upright by the buttons. We've done play, outside, and chew. He wanted to move right on to car ride, walk, and practice. I told him those ones are later. Big sigh. Fell asleep sitting up and then slowly melted. Lol.
Brando. Feb is fine for swimming, if you're wearing two fur coats! #shibainu #shinrinshibas #doglife
I'm proud of this boy. He used to panic when we even set foot in the building. Now he can settle in the exam room. Mat training pays off. I am amazed that he can even self-calm at the vet, when he has every reason in the world to hate being here - we've been here so much lately (and still can't figure out what's wrong). What a good boy, Boo.
