What a bunch of troopers these teams were 😍
34 degrees out and windy but all the dogs & handlers were ready to work every time it was their turn! The conditions made it super challenging, and every team had slightly different things that needed to be worked on but by the end of the day, every single team made huge progress!
Some of the things we worked on:
-arousal levels before trailing
-blind trails
-15+ minute aged trails
-surface changes
-doorway indications and communication
-target person i.d in a group of people
-interior & exterior trails
-trailing behaviour and body language
-post trail rewards from the handler
So proud of all these teams!!!

The two winners of the draw for Westcoast swag are: Deanna Isfeld & Karlee Orvis! Yay 😁
I will message you two to see what prize option you'd like!
This was so fun! Two weeks ago we set up some scenarios where the trail layers were inaccessible to the dogs. Every dog worked this slightly differently and depending on the dog, we either marked at the initial sign of elevated odour behaviour or we allowed them to work it a bit more (jumping up on the side of the playground). We also varied the rewards-either from the handler or the trail layer throwing their toy/treat! I ran this with Z first just to get an idea of what it would look like & she showed a beautiful combo of ground tracking & air scenting 💪 She also had a huge change of behaviour at the start of the trail when she spins around & heads off in the direction of the target person 😍

I'm a week late posting due to being down for the count with a brutal cold but say "HI" to a lovely, new group of mantrailers! 😁 These were my last two intro workshops planned and I won't have another one until end of June or July. If you'd like to be notified about future intro dates, let me know!
The cutest new little shed dogs 🥹❤️
I had a super fun group of ACD's for my Shed Dog Level 1 workshop this weekend!
3 out of the 5 were five month old littermates. Check out those retrieve skills in progress! 😍

This guy is a sniffing machine! Such a drivey little dude 😍
Two more Intro To Mantrailing workshops complete! We had some super enthusiastic & powerful dogs in this group who made leash handling very interesting 🤣.
We also had our first "toy reward only" dog too!

Athena wanted to pick up & kill shake every item we tried to use as a scent article for Mantrailing...until we used a pinecone! 🤣 Success!! She also regularily searches in my Sporting Detection classes while carrying a toy so of course Mantrailing was no different. She always drops the toy when she gets close to source 😄
11 teams were introduced to Lost Item Recovery and/or Shed Hunting yesterday! I forgot to start videoing until the second workshop of the day so we're missing one team in action (Annie). Maybe that's why she ate the certificate 😏
13 new teams got started on their sporting detection journey this week! 😍 *Not pictured: Arthur (Wednesday class)

I have 2 spots available in my 6pm Sport Detection class in Langley starting Jan 9th. This is an intro class that runs weekly for 5 weeks. Suitable for teams with no prior scentwork experience! Message if interested 😊
It's been a great year working with an amazing group of people & their dogs!
I've had the pleasure of being a part of SO many wins (trial & otherwise!). It makes me incredibly happy to see the change in confidence that happens during my classes, for both the dog AND the handler ❤️.
Thank you to all my kickass clients who make my "job" so enjoyable!! You are all appreciated 🤗
I'm on holidays now for two weeks & can't wait to get back to training in the new year.
Cheers!
**I managed to find pictures of every team except Milo (GSD), Milo (Groenendael), Ellie (mix), Kit (Vizsla), Nico (GSD)**
"Get to source in the most creative way possible" was NOT the assignment but Bunny nailed it 🤣
4 1/2 month old Milo learning how to find lost items 😍

Lost item recovery is a fun skill to teach, and can definitely come in handy if you ever lose something while out with your dog!
If you happen to be someone who likes to compete in dog sports, the North American Dog Sport Association has titles you can earn that are based on these skills. In Level 1 the dog is searching for handler scented objects and in the higher levels, the dog is searching for items that belong to strangers.
Lost item recovery classes will be starting up soon! If you're interested in trying out something new with you dog, let me know 😊

"There's no way my Chihuahua will retrieve an antler"
Me: wanna bet? 😏
Next goal for this guy, going up one antler size!
